COVID-19
I've heard a lot of people getting sh*t for not going to see family on holidays this year. It wasn't even an option for us. We weren't going. Period. I recall hearing about the possibility of at home tests being available this month and we entertained the idea of getting tested and having my MIL over for Christmas, but when all the vaccine news broke out, that got tossed. It's one holiday season. You can skip one holiday season.Going to my in-laws house is never fun in a normal year but especially not this year. We didn't go Thanksgiving obviously but are being forced to go Christmas because it is my MIL's "day" - "her holiday". She goes all out for it, etc. My wife is an only child so our kids are their only grandkids. I'm not happy but then just found out they invited my wife's uncle and aunt from out of state that she has never met in her life. wtf..now I'm pissed.

My wife is not happy with me. I told her there would be no kids, no grand or great grands kids in our house over Christmas. She said I am the biggest SCROOGE ever. She isn't talking to me. Looks like I will have to feed myself tonight. She also said I can't stop her from visiting them and delivering gifts. Oh well, if she brings it home, she brings it home. I'm not going anywhere.

You are not 'forced' to go anywhere. If you don't think it's safe to go, don't go. If your wife goes without you, she quarantines for 10 days. It's a helluva lot easier than being intubated to breathe.Going to my in-laws house is never fun in a normal year but especially not this year. I thought it was really cool how many people I know who got the vaccine so early in the process. I didn't know a single person with COVID until July.My brother's gf got it this am. Another couple friends have gotten their emails to start the process. Good to see this happening

Are you the first 5AFer?Got that vaccine today. Super easy, took a few minutes then just had to sit in a room with other recently vaccinated folk for 15 minutes to make sure I didn’t react. Not painful at all.
Of note, there have been no reactions here since we started (which is expected)

Were going to spend Christmas day at my parents with my siblings and stay the night there. I'm surprised my parents wanted to see my brother and sister and their spouses. I assumed they'd be OK with us since we went thru it and are safe now (I guess... worst case a negligible risk).
Were both anxious to start donating plasma. I think you're supposed to be symptom free for 2 weeks first though so my clock hasn't even started since I still have some. Definitely planning on donating as often as I'm allowed if I have the antibodies.

I'll buy you dinner if you want. Pick something out on DoorDash or Uber Eats and I'll have it delivered. Get something for her, too. You're doing the right thing. My wife is not happy with me. No, its 10 days after onset of symptoms provided you are fever free for 24 hours and your symptoms have improved. I'm on day 21 and checked the other two boxes. I am still fatigued and periodically still have chest tightness but am no longer shedding virus according to CDC guidelines.KC, you're still symptomatic and you're planning on traveling at the end of this week?? You're still contagious for around 10 days after symptoms resolve.

The likelihood of recovering replication-competent virus also declines after onset of symptoms. For patients with mild to moderate COVID-19, replication-competent virus has not been recovered after 10 days following symptom onset (CDC, unpublished data, 2020; Wölfel et al., 2020; Arons et al., 2020; Bullard et al., 2020; Lu et al., 2020; personal communication with Young et al., 2020; Korea CDC, 2020). Recovery of replication-competent virus between 10 and 20 days after symptom onset has been documented in some persons with severe COVID-19 that, in some cases, was complicated by immunocompromised state (van Kampen et al., 2020). However, in this series of patients, it was estimated that 88% and 95% of their specimens no longer yielded replication-competent virus after 10 and 15 days, respectively, following symptom onset.

let me guess: it started in the Norwegian camp and soon it's going to spread to the American camp and then Kurt Russell is going to kill everyone
