I wouldn't say doomed to fail. It would just mean that countries like South Korea could not really be used as benchmarks. I mean, how many times in the last eight months have we seen articles about how well SK is dealing with this pandemic? I've sure seen plenty. But if the citizens of those countries have a genetic resistance, then those comparisons would be inapposite.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/11/20/health/p ... index.html
The FDA has scheduled a meeting of its Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, a group of outside experts, for December 8, 9 and 10, a source familiar with the process told CNN this week. The agency could make a decision at the end of the meeting on December 10 about whether to issue an emergency use authorization, the source said.
Looks like vaccine EUA could come as early as December 10th, with the first people getting it on the 12th or 13th.

That is all dependent upon distribution which is a huge question mark right now.

Wouldn't that be something? Unprecedented development of new vaccine, unable to distribute due to logistics.

The guy in charge of distribution is a career military official, not a trump appointed political lackey.

Nothing was mentioned of Trump... doesn't matter who is in the white house: distribution is going to take a lot of work and a lot of smart people at the federal, state, and local level getting together and figuring out how to get it done.

I realize that distribution is difficult but to think there's no plan in place just because Trump is president is kinda wacky if you ask me.

Pence did say there is a plan in place to ship within 24 hours of approval and start poking people within 24 hours of that.

If there is something the military knows how to do more than most companies it is logistics and distribution of key assets.

Isn’t there still the issue of the extreme subzero temps required for the Pfizer vaccine?

There are quite a few corporations who could offer advice on the logistics side of things. I imagine that's probably already happening, to be honest.

Nobody, but most of us wouldn't be surprised if there was no plan in place. It could be like pissbaby's healthcare plan that was just around the corner 4 years ago.

That require extreme temps? Domestically? Why are we pretending like they've done this before?

I mean, load up a truck and drive up to mount Sinai. Work with their people to do the set up. Poke every employee. Go to the next place.

Do that with lots of trucks at lots of hospitals.

I really think we might be overestimating the complexity.

I think the hardest part is gathering and quickly analyzing the data to keep things heavily monitored, but that can be retrospective.

I stand by these comments I made over the summer.
This may sound hyperbolic, but if an actual effective vaccine for this is deployed at any point before the end of 2021 it will be one of the greatest achievements in human history imo.
Granted, there's never been this kind of focused direction of resources and money towards developing a vaccine like we're seeing now. But I've never had had anything like a belief or expectation that we'd have a vax anytime before 2022. If we do, I said earlier that it will be one of the greatest achievements in human history.
If we have a safe and effective vaccine deployed next month, it will be nothing short of extraordinary.

Pfizer has distribution networks that can handle it. They even said as much.
