This seems like semantics...

Nobody is saying they should be allowed to hold people down and weld masks to their faces.

How exactly does this work. Me wife watches kids and a parent is quarantining because her student teacher has covid. She is just quarantining and has not shown symptoms or gotten a test, but still sending her 18 month old over to our house. All good there?

Our company just sent an email out requiring masks no matter what if you're inside the building. Even if nobody is within 30 feet of your cubicle, or nobody is in the lab, which is the case with me today. I think it's a bit of a stretch but whatever. There's literally one person (safety manager) that would enforce it.
Are you in PA? The new PA mask mandate says that masks indoors regardless of how many people/are able to maintain 6 ft distance.

This is pretty hilarious.

It is funny, but man I'd be pissed if that was my son/daughter. Talk about advancing the shitty teacher stereotype.
Is it though? Obviously the tweet makes it sound bad, but if you read the actual email, the teacher is glamping in the woods. They lost power and it sounds like they live in a wooded area where restoring their power is low priority. I lost my electric during windstorms the other day and my "4g" signal wasn't even strong enough to look up the phone number for Penelec on my phone let alone do a zoom class, so I can empathize.

I think the parent is being an entitled jerk.

"currently living in the forest" does not convey that this is their usual place of residence to me. However, I also feel like this is something that is a complete non-issue that pissed off a parent whos kid probably struggles with independent learning and the parent doesn't have the time/doesn't want to be bothered with it.

So to follow up on my post: the issue is that there is zero enforcement. Once you start enforcing it, people fall in line pretty quickly. You know that kid at Halloween that grabs fistfuls of candy and shoves it into his bucket? If all the other kids see him doing that and no one says anything, they're going to follow suit. The same thing is happening on our manufacturing floor. There's a kid person here or there that aren't wearing their mask and nothing is happening. Others see it and say "Hey... nothing is happening to them if they don't wear it. I guess I don't have to either..."

Don't overthink it. You set the people straight on expectations. You don't follow expectations you get punished. People don't want to be punished so they fall in line. It's that easy.

But what if they seize the means of production?

First: it won't. The handful of people that you have to slap on the wrist and maybe one person you have to fire isn't going to halt production. Secondly: You hire new people... COVID has left plenty of good people out of a job.

from a question I asked a few months ago, droplets in the air can remain for a few hours depending on ventilation/concentration

so, say you have COVID but are asymptomatic and go to the bathroom, take off your mask and sneeze your face off. An hour later, someone else walks into the bathroom and takes off their mask. They are at risk even if you never got within 1000 feet of this person

edit: here's the previous post
I should probably ask this in the COVID thread but if someone is infected and breathing, talking, spittling, etc in a certain area without a mask, how long would it take for that area to be “safe”? Seconds? Minutes? Eons?
Up to three hours if no ventilation
Do you have an article for this? I'd like to check that out.

https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases ... -19-basics
A person infected with coronavirus — even one with no symptoms — may emit aerosols when they talk or breathe. Aerosols are infectious viral particles that can float or drift around in the air for up to three hours.

I just watched 8 of my coworkers hop in 2 trucks to go to lunch, likely at an indoor dining place.

apparently since 3 of them had COVID back in August they now think we're all immune.

One of my FB friends posted this article from the NEJM as proof that masks and social distancing don't work and why we should let the virus run its course.
https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2029717

The article states that only 2% of the subjects in the study became infected with COVID. But, since it wasn't 0%, that's proof Donald Trump was right all along. :face:

So, it is very bad right now and could get worse by all the numbers I see posted here. To stop this how many are for a total lock down like in March? I sure don't want it, but it may be the best way to go since it seemed to work back then. It would be easier to enforce a shutdown then social distancing and total mask usage outside the house. Not sure what I want (as usual), but this partial stuff doesn't seem to be working. Especially for us old guys.

I'd say lock it down, but I'm still riding high from that $1200 we got back in May. Maybe when that dries up

I'm for a partial lockdown, things like indoor dining or bars shouldn't be open. If you're able to wear a mask and still conduct business, that should remain opened, though with an added emphasis on curb-side pickup if possible.

Businesses who are forced to close their doors need help from a state or federal level. Also, give us all another **** stimulus.

it gets better. when they came back I asked them where they went. they went to a buffet. yes, buffets are open in GA because Brian Kemp is a moron.

THEN they proceeded to tell me that when a vaccine comes out they won't get it.
