COVID-19
This was on the front page of my local paper today. If true sounds pretty good at least to me.
Allegheny County has gone a month with the number of new COVID-19 cases stabilizing, even though schools and colleges have been back in session.
“Thank, goodness, we’re seeing modest increases,” Debra Bogen, director of the county’s Health Department, said Wednesday
Fitzgerald said the stable case count in Allegheny shows that people are taking precautions against the virus, such as mask-wearing in public, staying socially distant and frequent hand washing. He said the colleges have been proactive in the effort to slow the spread of the virus, that things “can be done safely if they are done right.”

I saw a similar article where officials were content with the number of cases. It's a little odd that they were talking about case numbers instead of positive rate, but whatever. Case numbers have been stable but a lot of that is due to lower testing levels. Positive rate has increased since schools opened (from ~5% to ~8% on average) while testing rate decreased. Tests seem to be back around average numbers now, though, and today was a good day at only about 6%.This was on the front page of my local paper today. If true sounds pretty good at least to me.

I find the quarantine suggestions a bit funny at the moment... our company is going by the PA DOH/Wolf's suggestions for quarantining after travel. We're the #2 rising case rate city/area in the nation. Wouldn't traveling anywhere other than the #1 spot be better?

SC started 5 day for elementary this week. It has gone well here.

I can 100% see this mental image coupled with the voice of Jason Robards reading a letter from a Union soldier writing home to his dearest Charlotte in the Ken Burns documentary.I can honestly say that I've been asked if I'm trying to bring back the civil war look over ten times now.Man, you should absolutely post it.I have to get a new one in November. Mustache, chops and hair haven't been touched since February. Going to be an amazing drivers license.Extended another year, October 2021.
When's the new deadline?
I'll probably wait until then.

Is lower testing necessarily a bad thing? Wouldn't the number of test be driven primarily by demand, so if fewer people are seeking out tests, that means that fewer people are showing symptoms that might be Covid or fewer people are believing they might have been exposed?

It's not just the US:

The backdrop for the speakers included a QAnon flag. The U.S.-based group promotes a conspiracy theory that says U.S. President Donald Trump is battling against a cabal of pedophiles, which includes a number of prominent liberal politicians and businessmen.
“It’s not that serious,” said a man in his 20s named Tony. “It’s like a bad flu and I read a story that said masks don’t contain the spread.”
He couldn’t remember the origin of the story. The consensus from epidemiologists is that masks do, in fact, contain the spread of COVID-19, and organizations including the World Health Organization, Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and national and provincial public health departments strongly encourage their use.

We’ve drastically reduced the number of locations that can administer tests because the demand is way down here.Is lower testing necessarily a bad thing? It’s only 10 fans/staff who were in close contact with the infected person.

Cross my fingers too, but you mentioned flu, not good in this thread. One other good thing that might be a side-benefit. Hopefully enough people will maintain mask discipline through the autumn and winter that it will mitigate the regular flu season somewhat. Fingers crossed.

Its weird because at one point it was like oh sht the positivity rate is going up were in trouble, and now its like oh its only going up bc less people need tested. And they're kinda both right

Good. We'll see how this thing mixes with flu season... hopefully with the precautions people are taking, it's a down flu year.

Haven’t gotten a flu shot since the navy forced them on us. I’ll be getting one this year.

I never received a flu shot until I had kids. This year's is less painful than most years. I wasn't sore at all after the shot.

My last employer gave the option of receiving the shot for free on site, so I got it every year. I just switched jobs in April, and we won't be going back until January at the earliest. In fact,I haven't even been in the office other than for the interview. Guess I'll have to go to CVS or somewhere to get it. I've read that it's recommended to wait until October to get the shot, so I plan on getting it then.

Yeah, I got mine a little early (few weeks ago). I get it at my local grocery store, as they give you a $10 coupon if you do. Might be worth seeing if Giant Eagle does something similar.Source of the post Guess I'll have to go to CVS or somewhere to get it.
