Well getting a Covid test sucks. My mother is positive and she watched one of the kids before finding out. Got my brain poked, now we wait.
Sure hope all comes out fine. Was your mother asymptomatic?
Initially I think she was but started feeling symptoms the day after we were there and got tested. Despite me and my wife telling her to not go to church, she kept going and that’s most likely where it came from. She said only about 50% of people there were wearing masks since the church reopened.

We're at 1 student and 1 employee, so that's good.
Is that "South Carolina College of Celibacy and One-Mile Social Distancing"?

We are at 1,300 positives (though the number of active cases has been declining from the peak of about 900 to the current "only" 720). Luckily, out of those only something like 4-5 faculty (2 current) and maybe 10-12 staff (6 current).

Ultimately, I think as long as Bama stays open (over 2,000 positives) and faculty does not get infected, the rest of SEC schools will follow suit.

Yeah, pretty much. We only have 1100 students, and a lot of those are online or only on campus for half of their hybrid classes.

We aren't closing as long as a couple of us are healthy. Can't afford it.

My SIL is a teacher in Jersey, and while her district is 100% virtual, she has to come in to her classroom to actually teach. They apparently don’t trust anyone.

Our district is the same way, except we were opt in all year virtual. The year long virtual teachers have students from their home schools, but are all teaching out of a central school, which doesn’t make sense other than from a supervisory standpoint.

Having separate teachers for the virtual kids... sounds nice.

Our district only has about 10000 students, and probably 10% opted to go to private schools this year. Much easier to have separate teachers for virtual in a small district.

I'll have no issues with a vaccine assuming that the scientific and medical community agrees that it's truly ready. If it's being pushed by any politician while there's pushback from science, it's going to be a hard pass.
I'm down with this as well.
This isn't the wild west. If a vaccine goes to market, that means its safe.

On of my co-workers (who claims to be a centrist... he's clearly not. He's a conservative.) was railing against Kamala Harris for, in his words, saying "If a vaccine comes out before the election, I wouldn't trust it." That is not what she said. She said that she wouldn't trust Trump if he claimed a vaccine was available before the election, which... I mean, c'mon. Who would?

The infrastructure is in place for approval. If there was the ability to circumvent that infrastructure, the vaccine would be out by now. All the checks are there, and boxes need to be ticked before moving forward. If the boxes aren't ticked, it doesn't move forward. It's pretty simple. Once it's available, I'll be getting it. As NTP said, trust science.

I'll try and dig up the article, but I read a story this weekend that mentioned they'll need something like 8000 airplanes in order to distribute the vaccine effectively, and it has to be transported frozen. Quite the undertaking for sure.

Bam.

Covid vaccine: 8,000 jumbo jets needed to deliver doses globally, says IATA
The equivalent of 8,000 Boeing 747s will be needed, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has said.

There is no Covid-19 vaccine yet, but IATA is already working with airlines, airports, global health bodies and drug firms on a global airlift plan.

The distribution programme assumes only one dose per person is needed.

"Safely delivering Covid-19 vaccines will be the mission of the century for the global air cargo industry. But it won't happen without careful advance planning. And the time for that is now," said IATA's chief executive Alexandre de Juniac.

While airlines have been shifting their focus onto delivering cargo during the severe downturn in passenger flights, shipping vaccines is far more complex.

Not all planes are suitable for delivering vaccines as they need a typical temperature range of between 2 and 8C for transporting drugs. Some vaccines may require freezing temperatures which would exclude more aircraft.

"We know the procedures well. What we need to do is scale them up to the magnitude that will be required," added Glyn Hughes, the industry body's head of cargo.

Flights to certain parts of the world, including some areas of South East Asia, will be critical as they lack vaccine-production capabilities, he added.

I know this won't make a difference to the anti-vax folks, but the top pharmaceutical companies made a pledge to not skip any safety checks.

Unless your in the high risk category, you probably won't be receiving the vaccine any time soon anyways. So hopefully, if there is any bad side effects they'll be caught by the time I'd be able to get it. :P

I'll most likely be able to get it early too but I won't if there is any legit scientific controversy.

There is going to be controversy no matter what. And if Trump touts it, forget about it.

Theyre not going to give you an unsafe vaccine. They just aren't. Thinking otherwise is Bill Gates microchip level lunacy.

I don't care what Trump says. Again, listen to the scientific community.
