COVID-19
that is assuming there hasn't been, oh i dunno, six months to plan alternatives
either play, let everyone get sick, and then cancel
or just cancel
either way, the odds of fall sports happening is very low

If you're not dead yet, you didn't actually get it...

As a quick follow up to this: the two tests that he took were an antigen test followed by the PCR testing. Antigen tests are far more likely to show false positives than a PCR test. Has anyone ever gotten tested for strep? They do the same thing, antigen test (I think they call them rapid tests) followed by a PCR test (which is the one they call you about a day or two later). The antigen test gives you results in minutes, PCR takes days.

COVID-19
So on the front lines of higher education: our campus is starting to reopen, so we have a trickling of students coming back: residence hall staff and international students started arriving Thursday night.
First thing yesterday morning, an international student tries to get into our building. No mask. Had no idea he was supposed to be wearing a mask. That’s literally the first interaction any one of my staff has had with any students so far. Every student has had multiple campuswide emails and direct phone or email conversations about masks and other campus distancing programs.
About two hours later, I saw a pack of res hall assistants walking past my building, heading to lunch downtown. No masks on.
Things are going well.

Went to Moorestown Mall today for my wife’s wedding band inspection, since they closed every store near me in PA, then went to my local mall for her other ring’s inspection. Everyone was wearing a mask, but there were more than a few who had them under their noses. Better than nothing, I guess.

What if we never stop having cases, even with a vaccine?

Okay you keep saying this. Break down herd immunity using something simple like 100 people. How many die before the herd immunity takes over? How many have lasting complications? Who of the population dies (men, women, children, old?Not if herd immunity starts at 15-25% there won’t be a huge spike.A fall spike is basically unavoidable yes?

No one knows if complications are lasting. I've read both it could be lasting or just take a couple months.
The median age of death in the USA is 80.

Well I’m not going to go back and try to find those studies.

60% is for vaccination herd immunity per this study, not natural infection.

Almost every single country or state, once they hit somewhere in that threshold has started falling. Arizona is finding 17% positive antibodies (case rate falling), Florida has hit almost 20%, now they are starting to fall, Texas too... It certainly looks pretty like something that could be true.
