COVID-19

Protocols are fine if followed. The non school affiliated youth sports practices I've seen have been spotty.

As club president if I have to deal with someone like the woman upthread about wearing her mask- either I quit or I shut the season down. Ain't dealing with that for a volunteer job.
They’ve been really good except for when they’re actually playing the sport. There is no possible way to social distance while playing football.

Yeah I'm realy curious to see how the NFL operates. Seems like the NBA and NHL's plans have been working while the MLB has issues. But no way are there fans in the stands for NFL's opening week a month from now. Dunno if high school football can follow protocols. If Team A plays Team B and Team B has one or two kids test positive a few days after a game, does Team quit playing? All have to quarantine plus their classes at school?

I suppose it's better to err on the side of being too safe. But I feel like some sports would be fine - tennis, golf, maybe cross country, etc.

Oh, sure. But we all know this is about football. The schools and sanctioning bodies are not going to bat for golf, so to speak.

What is more risky?

Possibly Exposing kids to the virus or possibly causing long term psychological harm to kids?

First day back to school in Georgia.

ftw
I was reading about this earlier. Apparently the school skipped a level of discipline in their progressive schedule (with one of the students, not sure about the other).

It's funny, because taking disciplinary measures that specifically cite "casting the school in a bad light", or whatever the language is, sort of acknowledges that they are s**ting the bed here.

These are legitimate questions.

I’m fairly certain there have been more excess suicides among 18 and under than Covid deaths 18 and under. At what point do we start realizing we are possibly permanently damaging our youngest generation?

Canceling football season is going to cause long term psychological harm?

Yes. For some of these children. Yes it is.

You tell me when we have to start going back to a more normal for the low risk (I.E. below 65 years old and not morbidly obese)?

What happens if we don’t ever get a vaccine?

You're only doing that because its nobody. I was bummed out when I couldn't play fat guy beer league hockey at 11 o'clock at night. Its a legit topic of discussion and something that should be considered in the decision making process.

Idk man, I'm not the one making these decisions. What's more normal? I feel like we are more normal here than we were in March/April

Get the **** out of here. That’s a ridiculous take. I understand that some kids are struggling with no school and a lack of socialization. All of those concerns are very real. But a cancelled sports season should not even be in the same conversation.

We've seen in here before that if you are not on "Team Concern" then you don't care about old people.

The idea canceling fall sports will no affect on high school kids is ignorant. We had a kid locally who committed suicide last spring over his last season of baseball ending due to Covid, and I can't imagine that is the only case of the unintended harm of just telling high school kids to suck it up and deal.

So you are ok with inner city school kids possibly not having sports? A good percentage of these kids use sports to get into college. That could be really hurt a lot of fringe players or people missing their recruitment year.
