COVID-19

Postby nocera » Wed Jul 08, 2020 8:57 pm

Maybe someday god will allow everyone to pray to him from places outside of a church.
Maybe people get more out of being present in an actual place of worship?
I’m not a fan of organized religion but I was raised with the church, was an alter boy, all that good stuff. I understand ones connection to the church (the act of believing as well as the building itself). I have no issue with anybody who goes to church. That said, if it isn’t safe to have gatherings of 25 or more, then it isn’t safe for a church to have services either.

My parents church went totally virtual for a while. When church services were allowed to reopen, they stopped that. They are also both in a high risk category, as many who go to church are. So now they have to decide between their health and worshipping in the church, and I know they have a lot of guilt about it.

My church is following the 25 rule, inviting people alphabetically on a rotating basis, and requiring masks. Actually last time I went I thought they could have safely had another 15 or so people in there

Um.....not to be a spoilsport, but am I the only one that saw the bit about those 650 cases related to churches are linked to only around 40 congregations/events?

If they want to exempt churches from the 25 rule then fine but they should still require masks.

I drove past one of those non denominational Christian churches one Sunday and they had set up in the parking lot. Thought it was a cool idea

650. A church wouldn't cover something bad up, would it?

How would a church be able to cover it up?

Not sure how that does anything but support my contention that churches are not a major source of coronavirus cases.

Maybe they’ll just keep moving the COVID to a different parish?

Catholic. I was an alterboy at St. Boniface in Acme. When I got old enough to make my own decisions I was Free Methodist for a short while before reaching the age of reason and abandoning the faith.

Churches and protests/riots don't transmit COVID. It's a miracle!

I was raised in a very non-swearing religious family. I still believe in much of it. I especially like to live by the 10 commandments with emphasis on the last 5. That and the golden rule is a good way to live, at least to me.

I’m curious about their protocols in general. Like nocera said earlier, I don’t see any strong reason why churches should be exempt from the order unless they were having services outdoors.

For the churches that went virtual during the peak of covid? Lead by example and go back to it temporarily.

so ACHD says

no indoor dining
no alcohol consumption inside bars/restaurants (3 drink max outdoors)
no events of 25 indoors, 50 outdoors
no smoking in casinos

the caisno thing is puzzling. anecdotally, the people going to casinos is are elderly and/or sick (motorized scoots, oxygen everywhere). does it make sense to allow these people to congregate? seems like an empty ploy to get revenue back for the state from gaming dollars; however, if you cant smoke eat or drink, how many people will go? can more than 25 people be in a casino?

I'm still... STILL seeing posts on my FB feed about how masks don't work, and when you click on the link or video they start talking about how the surgical or cloth mask doesn't protect the person wearing it. NO SH*T! We all know this. It protects others from you, you selfish dadhole.

Seems like the alcohol and smoking stuff is designed to limit the time people spend in these places or discourage them from going at all. I feel like it’s a way to close places without actually mandating them to close. “If I can’t drink/smoke there, I don’t want to go at all.”
