COVID-19

We haven't returned to the office yet, but the current plan is to have us fill out an evaluation form each day. No temp checks, no testing. It's the honor system.

I am pretty sure that was the way hospitals were handling it back in Mar and April. Don't come here for a test, assume you have it, and don't expose anyone.

I saw something where early on in NYC, people were just going to the hospital to get a test and actually getting infected because they went to the ER.

There are spikes and outbreaks happening in various locations in the US... spikes and outbreaks aren't good. I think we can all agree on that, yes?
Hmmmm...it depends on who says it or what website it's on...

I guess it will come down to ncaa and their health stipulations and who will be able to afford that.

I said this in another thread but there are probably 1000 colleges in United States that are going to close if they don't get that tuition money this year.

Similar when it comes to athletics.

Stanford just cut 11 sports because of revenue issues.

:thumb: Seems reasonable.

Except the church thing. Church is super high risk due to singing.

It's not.

There are 45,000 churches in the United States only 600 or so cases that can even be remotely linked to them.

Church is every bit as high risk as indoor dining. Felt the need to add that mask wearing obviously decreases the risk. But if that mattered, they wouldn’t be limiting events to 25 or less

Glad they're allowing outdoor. That will be useful for the next few months

How do you operate athletics if the NCAA mandates all these changes that you can't afford? These schools barely can afford the season regardless. Hell, a lot of these schools lose money if they make it into playoffs. It's an ugly situation. I think pushing to spring might be their best bet

Maybe someday god will allow everyone to pray to him from places outside of a church.

There have been 650 cases linked to in-person since March.

There have been 60,000 new cases in the past couple of weeks.

Would you call that a "major source of coronavirus cases"?

Nope, but that doesn't mean it should be exempt, either.

That’s where they’re at so far.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/08/us/c ... reaks.html
“It’s an ideal setting for transmission,” said Carlos del Rio, an infectious-disease expert at Emory University, referring to church gatherings. “You have a lot of people in a closed space. And they’re speaking loudly, they’re singing. All those things are exactly what you don’t want.”
If you can’t have an Indoor event in Allegheny County with more than 25 people, that should include churches. Or else just have exceptions for everything. No more than 25 people except religious gatherings, family events, sports, retirement parties, and pampered chef events.

I doubt it. Ivy League football doesn't make any money. even their alums and students don't care. my SO is Yale '95 and she only watches 1 game a year AT MOST.
SEC schools like Alabama and UGA bring in MILLIONS of dollars with their football programs. I don't see them giving up that cash without a serious fight.

Isn’t there a separation of state and restaurant too?

Okay that’s a twist I didn’t see coming. Separation of church and state is a whole other debate that was touched on a bit in the politics thread so I’ll leave it there.

The “people can decide if they want to go or not” is an argument that can be used for restaurants, bars, gyms, etc. it’s a poor argument there too.

650. A church wouldn't cover something bad up, would it?

Maybe people get more out of being present in an actual place of worship?
