I'm afraid I have some bad news for anyone who thinks the government doesn't have the ability to track every single time you fart.

I totally get that. my SO works in cyber security and will absolutely not allow us to have any of those type devices in our house, hooked up to our wifi. we have covers on all of our laptop cameras, no Smart TVs and interior security cameras are only aimed at points of egress and entry.I also don't want Alexa listening in on me all the time.
I don't understand why people have surveillance cams in their living rooms. back when Aaron Hernandez killed that guy and they showed footage from his house of him standing in his living room I was like, "why would you want a camera watching everything you do???" creepy.

Purely anecdotal, but I have found there to be a very large crossover in the Venn circle of people who yell "I DON'T WANT THE GOVERNMENT TRACKING ME, FREEEEEEDOOMMMMMMMMMMMMM! LOOK AT THIS VIDEO OF ME SHOOTING MY AR LIBERTY STICK!!!!!!" and the one of people who check in on Facebook to every single location they have ever visited since 2009.Yep. A family member told me this as well so it's a pretty common conspiracy fear. This same person is also never without her smart phone but doesn't see an issue with that.Source of the post she won't be taking it because it will include a chip engineered by Bill Gates to track you everywhere you go

I mean, you can see the difference between government tracking you and FB check-ins right?

Foursquare still makes a lot of money by enabling other businesses to be creepy and follow people's habits using their phone. I am not a fan.

Anyone who carries a "smart phone" has lost the battle for privacy.

The email arrived on a Tuesday afternoon in January, startling Zachary McCoy as he prepared to leave for his job at a restaurant in Gainesville, Florida.
It was from Google’s legal investigations support team, writing to let him know that local police had demanded information related to his Google account. The company said it would release the data unless he went to court and tried to block it. He had just seven days.
“I was hit with a really deep fear,” McCoy, 30, recalled, even though he couldn’t think of anything he’d done wrong. He had an Android phone, which was linked to his Google account, and, like millions of other Americans, he used an assortment of Google products, including Gmail and YouTube. Now police seemingly wanted access to all of it.
“I didn’t know what it was about, but I knew the police wanted to get something from me,” McCoy said in a recent interview. “I was afraid I was going to get charged with something, I don’t know what.”
There was one clue.
In the notice from Google was a case number. McCoy searched for it on the Gainesville Police Department’s website, and found a one-page investigation report on the burglary of an elderly woman’s home 10 months earlier. The crime had occurred less than a mile from the home that McCoy, who had recently earned an associate degree in computer programming, shared with two others.
