Fauci also spoke about the importance of wearing a mask during the pandemic.

"I want to protect myself and protect others, and also because I want to make it be a symbol for people to see that that's the kind of thing you should be doing," he said, adding that it showed "respect for another person."
Don't tell Trump that.

Of course we can. Not without proper testing, contract tracing, and quarantining when appropriate. We need to be able to lock down specific areas again if there are hot spots. That has to be an option.
Agreed 100%.

A sign of intelligence is changing your opinion if new facts present themselves.
It sure is. If he sees that circumstances are changing in our country based on the data, why is the MSM still talking about how awful places are that are opening up?

The 'blame the media for everything' kick is almost as bad as the 24-hour news cycle itself.

No. But I don’t take everything he says as gospel either.

It’s all part of the right wing machine. It’s just regurgitated here. I’m sure we will be hearing more about “Obamagate” here in the next few weeks

I’m fairly certain a month ago he said it was inevitable.
Last month: "It’s inevitable that the coronavirus will return next season. ... When it does, how we handle it, will determine our fate."

Now: "If we do the kinds of things that we’re putting in place now, to have the workforce, the system, and the will to do the kinds of things that are the clear and effective identification, isolation and contact tracing, we can prevent this second wave that we’re talking about, if we do it correctly,"

What's different?

I honestly was confused. I saw the MSM post and thought it was the political thread. Because you know, that’s not political or anything. I’ll make sure I post correctly next time.

Anthony Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease expert, reportedly said Wednesday that a second wave of the coronavirus is "inevitable" later this year.

Is the issue here that nobody is taking that caption out of the context that tif provided?

Like sure, looking at that caption seems final and Fauci said it was inevitable, but given the context tif provided to that remark (which looks like it's taken from the same thing), how can you read that as final?

One he was talking about varying degrees of a second wave, the other is avoiding it.

Okay, so you can quote the bit I quoted. With the added context of the full quote from last month ("how we handle it will determine our fate") I'll repeat the question. How is what he said today substantively different from what he said last month?

But hes qualifying the 2nd... "if" we do these things, "if" we make the right moves, "if" we continue to wear masks and socially distance.

If we stop doing any of those, we will have the second wave, but if we're able to do all of that we'll be fine, is the gist I got.

That's the same takeaway I had, MR.

April: Virus will be back during the traditional respiratory infection season; how we respond will determine the severity of the outbreak.

May: Virus will be back during the traditional respiratory infection season; how we respond will determine the severity of the outbreak.

Ok. One is reduce the severity of the wave, the other is stop the second wave from occurring. That is is the gist I got from it.
