COVID-19
You responded to this:It's like some of y'all have doctorates in missing the point. What’s the point of the degree then? Whatever doctoral programs you’re in, I will now assume I have the same expertise and knowledge base that you have in that said area of expertiseYour right. No offense to c2i, but just because you have a doctorate doesn't make you smart.
It just means you have persevered.
Might be an all-time bad take on the board, given the context of the remark.
No one with a doctorate has been wrong for the last three months. Only "non-scientists" are off-the-mark.
This weird fascination some people have with credentials is odd.
I'm in a doctoral program right now. I hope nobody thinks I'm smart just because I have letters before and after my name.
It's hilarious watching people say "He's a scientist!" like they are a shaman or something.
This is basically the “I don’t want my president to be smart, I want him to be like me”
"Well he has a doctorate..."
Is not an argument.
“Are there any well respected epidemiologists who are touting the whole “it’s not as bad as we think” thing?
My main issue is that these idiots think they’re smarter than people who have literal doctorate degrees in this
I think healthy skepticism is important but thinking asked to wear a mask is some sort of government conspiracy is close to pants-on-head idiotic“
With this:
“ No offense to c2i, but just because you have a doctorate doesn't make you smart.”
You were clearly implying that we should listen to the masses as much as we should listen to the mass of experts in the field
No ****, EVERYONE with doctorate are not necessarily smart, but overwhelmingly people with doctorate ARE smart
This is just dumb all around

Or, at the very least, have more expertise and knowledge in their particular field of study than some rando on a message board.Source of the post EVERYONE with doctorate are not necessarily smart, but overwhelmingly people with doctorate ARE smart

I feel like this shouldn't even need to be said but of course some PhDs aren't as bright others. Some non PhDs may be smarter than some doctors. But I'll take my chances on a group of PhDs vs non PhDs, especially in the field that they are a doctor in. I think the "perseverance" at the very least buys them the benefit of the doubt.

Anecdotal, but I know more smart people that didn’t go to college at all than people that did.Or, at the very least, have more expertise and knowledge in their particular field of study than some rando on a message board.Source of the post EVERYONE with doctorate are not necessarily smart, but overwhelmingly people with doctorate ARE smart

To be fair and also more importantly dump gasoline on the dying embers, there have been scientists and people with doctorates producing scientific results that are completely contradictory to scientific results produced by other scientists and people with doctorates.
How do we know which ones to believe and which ones make us science‐deniers?

Having a doctorate means you learned everything there is to know about a very particular subject and then added to the world’s knowledge of that subject in some way.
Me weighing in to the coronavirus discussion and saying, “well, I do have a PhD” is ridiculous. None of my work had to do with virology. Now if we want to discuss gallium indium eutectics, their phase transitions, what happens to them under nano-confinement, and how we can exploit superconductive properties due to that confinement, I’m your man. I have a PhD from studying that.
If you need confirmation that just because you have a PhD, you might not know what you’re talking about, just look at the Plandemic video with Dr. Judy. She’s a bad scientist. They exist.
I have no idea wtf this argument is about, but I’ve had a few glasses of scotch on my front porch, watching the sunset, so yinz can all go f*ck yourselves.

The CDC quietly released guidelines yesterday for the reopening of schools. To be quite frank, their guidelines are insane and would essentially ruin school, especially for young children. I don't even know how some of these guidelines are realistic.
I said it before, I've been 100% on board with most of the precautions and policies that have been put into place. But assuming these guidelines are realistic at all, how long can this last? I'm not holding out hope for a readily available vaccine any time soon.

Just prepare them for the real world by turning every classroom into a cube farm, and giving them all a monitor and Bluetooth headset to watch a lesson on Microsoft teams or slack. There is a zero percent chance that happens.
