COVID-19

Postby shafnutz05 » Mon May 18, 2020 12:40 pm

Meanwhile, in Brazil:

The mayor of Brazil's largest city, São Paulo, has said its health system could collapse as demand grows for emergency beds to deal with coronavirus cases.

Bruno Covas said the city's public hospitals had reached 90% capacity and could run out of space in two weeks.

He accused those who flouted lockdown rules of playing "Russian roulette" with people's lives.

São Paulo is one of the country's worst-hit regions, with almost 3,000 deaths so far.
I have read other reports of Bolsonaro turning to the military, and the government there turning into some kind of military junta. Not great.

Almost all of their problems stem from Bolsonarro ignoring the virus and pretending like it didnt exist.

Gangs in the favelas were doing a better job of helping people lockdown than Bolsonarro.

Caution and confidence... I dig it.

The more and more I think about this, the more I like the Governor's plan of slow re-opening in phases, I just wish it was more concrete. "This = green, these numbers = yellow, this is the requirement for green). Apparently there was a document that got out that said "yellow" was to be a 3 week period and then evaluate whether to go green, stay yellow, or go back to red. That's the end of next week for our area (about 1.5 weeks into it now). I don't like the idea of just flipping the switch and saying "OPEN!" like all these nutjob protesters want.

That's because this is a day-to-day analysis, IMO. Anyone predicting a few weeks out should not be listened to.

People have been complaining all along that they need a timeline. Doesn't work that way.

I don't necessarily want a time line, but more concrete info on what makes green. "X% hospital utilization, Y% ICU utilization, Z cases per 100,000 with ABC amount of testing and you're green."

Agreed. Been saying that since day 1. There is never going to be a concrete timeline, numbers/percentages, or even detailed instructions as it is 1) a moving target and 2) just so gray and unknown. The government is going by the best information they have, which changes daily, and working with something unprecedented, while trying to balance health as well as the economy and people's ability to work. Mistakes are going to be made and there is no simple solution.

The person who ran the data dashboard for the Florida health department was removed from her post because, as she claims, she wouldn't censor certain numbers to make them look better so there'd be support for reopening.

While on a walk today, a dude from a passing car yelled out "put on a **** mask!"

I was walking in my neighborhood and was literally the only person on the sidewalk. Seemed aggressive. If I do see somebody on the same side of the street as me, I always cross to the other side to avoid getting close.

Do you guys wear a mask while exercising?

I yelled back "oh **** off." Not surprisingly, he wasn't wearing a mask either.

Of note:
Given that the incubation period for the virus is several days, Blanquer said, people are "likely" to have been infected before about 40,000 preschools and primary schools reopened last week, with classes capped at 15 students.
But it seems some more waiting is probably for the best.

Nope. I don't see anyone in my neighborhood wearing masks when they are out for a walk.

I ran in Monroeville park this morning at like 7:30am.. no mask. If someone came close by to me or was running the other way I simply moved a bit more out of the way. No harm no foul IMO.

Good. Wearing a mask on walks is essentially useless

You aren’t gonna get COVID outside when you aren’t breathing on each other

That guy was a jagoff. We take walks and play in our neighborhood without masks, and always keep away from others.
