Oof.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said he wasn't aware that asymptomatic people could transmit coronavirus as he announced he was preparing to issue a state-wide shelter-in-place order.

Kemp had resisted imposing tougher measures to tackle the pandemic, but on Wednesday he joined other Republican governors including the leaders of Florida and Mississippi in announcing he would sign a stay-at-home order. The order, which he said he would sign on Thursday, will go into effect on Friday.

Is there any way that this thing ends (everything completely back to normal) without everyone getting the virus at some point?

This thing is never going away. It's a new disease that will hang out there. These precautions are to stem the flood into the health system and give us some time to develop some sort of vaccine.

Right I understand the need to slow it down to not overwhelm our medical resources. I just don’t see how we can reopen schools and businesses without additional spikes. I guess you hope that enough people will recover and have some sort of immunity that will slow the spread.

When we do reopen, I think there would be another spike, maybe not to this magnitude, but there will probably be an increase. The idea is that when that does happen, the hospital system will be more prepared, and we can have better methods on either reducing the symptoms or even have a vaccine in place.

We can't stay home forever.

Even if a vaccine isnt developed for a year and a half......hopefully some technologies (such as the gr8 texan unironically wearing the flag/eagle hat and developing affordable ventilators) will mitigate the stress on the hospital system and therefore make it safer to get interact with others

One of the reporters asked about Latin America and Dr. Fauci said that they didn't know much about what was going on there because the governments were not releasing statistics.

Can't release what you don't have.

Aside from Germany and SK, who's numbers are actually trustworthy right now in terms of cases and deaths?

Source of the post I just don’t see how we can reopen schools
This is one area I'm concerned about. Let's say school starts back up in the fall, and one single person gets sick. Is school then closed again? If so, how long? I assume that every school district is going to spend the summer figuring out a backup plan, like online learning, so that these kids don't fall so far behind.

Schools are less of a problem than many other areas as the relevant group of people pretty much stays the same from day to day.

Depends on if there is a vaccine developed, or a "herd immunity" starts to develop, so people that have had this won't get sick, or other methods to lessen the symptons, the preparedness of the health care system improves, then we won't have to close everything down.

People are going to have this going forward.

Ehhhh. I think schools are just as volatile as any other relevant group. You have think broad than just the people that comprise a "group". Those kids go home to parents that have been out and about all day.

Basically all groups are connected.

Once the current spike declines to whatever is deemed an adequate level, certain things can resume and it will be up to state and local governments to monitor their own constituencies and implement shutdown tactics when necessary.

That will fall in line with summer months decreasing spread.

When fall comes around we should be way, way more armed to face another increase, both in terms of having already gone through the drill to fight the spread, plus being better prepared to help those infected, plus plus much more advancement in terms of antivirals and vaccines (if both dont exist by then. I know blahblah 1.5 years blag but I'm not buying it under these extenuating circumstances)

Parents not being out and about all day was my premise. But of course, it's still far from a "safe" scenario.
