Saw this on TV last night, and I think it's just tremendous.

I say give this guy the Presidential Medal Of Freedom right frickin' now.
Texas 'mom and pop' business flooded with orders for helmet ventilators amid coronavirus crisis
One month ago, Chris Austin was running a little-known mom-and-pop business in Texas that fielded a few dozen orders a week for his helmet-style ventilation devices.
He had five employees and a handful of volunteers from the family's church who would pitch in at the workshop behind their home in the small town of Waxahachie.
Then the coronavirus epidemic hit.
Austin's company, Sea-Long Medical Systems Inc., is getting thousands of orders every day, from America's top hospitals to countries as far flung as the United Arab Emirates. Researchers say the device, which costs less than $200, could help hospitals free up ventilators for only the most critically ill coronavirus patients.
This guy is manufacturing life-saving medical equipment in a complex of four automobile garages at his home. The two big takeaways from the story, for me: 1) He is offering a gratis license to any manufacturer who wants to produce these helmet/mask things, and 2) he is charging the same price per mask today as he was charging last year.Austin said he recently got a surprised call from Virgin Galactic CEO George Whitesides offering to help him produce more devices.
"Chris, I saw what you do, and we want to help," Whitesides said, according to Austin. "Whatever it takes."
Austin told him he needed more machines to manufacture the devices but didn't have the cash to pay for them. Later that day, Austin got a call from his New Jersey-based supplier.
"Somebody just paid your bill," Austin said he was told. "They'll be shipping tomorrow."
With the four additional machines, Sea-Long expects to produce thousands of helmets a week. The goal is to produce 50,000 per week.

because the GA governor didn't want to step on the toes of small business in the more rural parts of the state because he's not from metro ATL and couldn't care less about that area's population. Are they going to investigate why the state did little for as long as they did, too?

COVID-19
yeah that's what I heard too and it kind of pisses me off. Just because they're not hospitalized doesn't mean it's not severeyeah but define "mild". is mild just not ending up in the hospital? because I've heard stories of people who've said it's the sickest they've ever been but they didn't qualify for a hospital bed because it wasn't severe enough.
Interesting that 95% of active cases worldwide are considered mild. Wonder how they came up with that number? Is it part of the testing? And wonder what percentage of those mild cases turn severe?
I guess here's no other discrete way to measure these things though

I wasn’t playing a game of shifting the scope. Just saying it is unlikely by current measures that we will get to the same per capita death rate of Italy. No, I said "For the US to get to the Italy number" which I explicitly stated was 218/million. That was the scope of the assertion. That’s assuming no one else dies in Italy. As of today, deaths per million:
Italy: 218
US: 14
For the US to get to the Italy number it would mean 71,286 deaths, or about 65,000 more. That seems probable.
I am not participating in your game of shifting the scope to prove a point nobody was talking about just so you argue about it endlessly.
If you have a different point to raise, go for it.

Yea it’s still tough to gauge because honestly, we have not seen a huge surge yet in Pittsburgh.Just asking. He said it was promising, so I was wondering if they started using that as more of a standard is all.

COVID-19
A minister friend of mine in Scotland died from covid-19 last night.
The real tragic part of it is that he caught it in the hospital from a doctor who wasn't supposed to be seeing other patients after he had been in contact with somebody who had the Coronavirus.

Yeah it puts it into perspective when someone you know dies from it. The guy at work that I trained last year that passed away just sent me an email last week asking a question. He was a super nice guy.
I am worried about my wife going back into the hospital today even though she is not in the ER or anything.
