That's bonkers. National average is around 10%, I think.

This is pretty accurate. I’ve seen numbers fluctuating between 8-12% but 10% is the mode it seems.

Regarding h1n1 - we saw a number of younger people very sick - on ECMO in ICUs. Many of the elderly had built immunity based on prior infections. AnecdotAlly I feel like hospitalized COVID patients vented/in ICU is a more equal distribution in terms of age.

I had H1N1 either june 2009 or june 2010. Cant remember which, just remember I was really irritated to have the flu in june. I was 21 or 22 so too young to think much of it, and I dont remember feeling significantly worse than any other flu I've had. Nowhere close to how sick I was this past december.

I got the swine in 2009. One night of power-vomiting and hallucinations and I was good by the end of the next day. It felt weird.

Social-distancing guidelines to stay 6 feet from others may be woefully inadequate, one scientist warns — saying the coronavirus can travel 27 feet and linger for hours.

MIT associate professor Lydia Bourouiba, who has researched the dynamics of coughs and sneezes for years, warns in newly published research that the current guidelines are based on outdated models from the 1930s.
Mythbusters tackles this years ago in the flu episode. Their sneeze tests were in the 20’ range.

I remember swine flu only because I was coaching soccer, and half my team got wiped out in the first round of district playoffs by it. We went in as the 2 seed and got destroyed in the first round because all of my starters were sick.

The 6' thing is for regular air droplets, not for sneezing and coughing. Those two are pretty much a guarantee to transmit if you have the virus.

The 6' recommendation is something that, if followed, would require 15 minutes of interaction with an infected person to transmit the disease. So if you walk by somebody with the covid, chances are they won't transmit it to you unless they sneeze/cough near you.

but who actually aims up and out when they sneeze?

if you're not covering your sneeze you should be thrown in the gulag

My highly placed source inside the SC state government says the state is going into full lockdown within the next 36 hours. :scared:

Why the change of heart? 5 deaths since this morning.
interesting. how many counties in SC don't have a single reported case yet? counties without a case yet are why Georgia's governor won't do this.

There are 4-5 counties without reported cases, but the governor and head of the health/environment department says there are probably cases there not reported yet.

My one sister’s unit is being turned into a covid ICU, and she is only being provided a surgical mask. Same situation as most health systems at this point.

She was also told to expect peak to hit PA on a June 6th. This is from hospital leadership, and I’m still trying to find an actual source for that, because I thought PA was closer to peaking than June.

So that’s what...0.05% of the population? Sounds better when I put it like that
