COVID-19
not entirely true
The crazy thing is, this has nothing to due with flu season or an uptick in Covid patients. It's due to the worker shortage and has been this way for some time now.
the state's inability to create standard protocols for skilled facilities to receive COVID patients is a HUGE barrier -- probably the biggest. requirements of bivalent boosters, 'inability' to accept patients depending on timing of symptom onset are very disruptive. in terms of delivering actual acute care to sick patients, its not due to covid. but downstream of acute care facilities is still lacking. secondarily, many skilled and assisted facilities are closing due to staffing etc. when looking at lengths of stay compared to discharge patients to home vs discharging to a facility, there is almost a 2x delta between those two when its usually 10-15% higher

There are most certainly 24-hour urgent care locations. Of our 35, 12 are 24-hours. Three of which are peds only.I don't disagree with anything said, but just to give the other side: that redditor is specifically talking about Children's at 3 am. Urgent care was not an option at that time.

PA has stupid rules where you start to get in to an 'emergency' department with 24 hour coverage and PA requires inpatient beds for 'emergency' departments in urban/suburban areas. the rural regulations were recently contemporized a bit but still stupidThere are most certainly 24-hour urgent care locations. I did not know that. I don't believe any of the UMPC urgent cares are 24 hours or at least I haven't seen any. There are most certainly 24-hour urgent care locations. Of our 35, 12 are 24-hours. Yeah I don't think there is such a thing as 24 hour urgent care anywhere around here.

I've taken my child to the ER before... of course her lips were blue, she was shaking, and having trouble breathing, but still. Guilty as charged!

Certain university libraries. (Although not mine)Other than some convenience stores, is anything open 24 hours these days?

Quick update on QR code vaccination proof documents:
Walgreens apparently has a "known problem" with connecting your COVID vaccination info in your account to the actual QR certificate. When you try to get the QR certificate, you'd get "We're sorry, but we couldn't find any COVID-19 vaccination records..." even though the COVID record is freakin visible in your account.
You will have to send them the copy of your vaccination card and the screenshot of the glitch - and they'll manually fix it within a week (at least that's what they promised)
On the other hand, it took only about 10 minutes to get the record added to my county health office data (though the problem is that while it says "COVID booster" - they actually don't have a way to indicate the maker of the vaccine... ???!!!).
So, Dubai - here we go with two QR code certificate (county and Walgreens).

COVID-19
Just in case somebody can help:
I'm about to go to Dubai, and that country requires QR-coded proof of vaccination if one does not want to get tested. I want to limit the problems with immigration bureaucracy, and so I decided to combine my initial shots (done in the hospital) and a booster shot (in Walgreens) into one record (even though I can obviously fly with two separate "Smart Card" QR codes). The county health office took my paper vaccination card from Walgreens and manually added the info my county data. I was told that while they have the opportunity to indicate "COVID booster" - they actually don't have a way to indicate the maker of the vaccine. (Walgreens QR coded Smart Card naturally shows "Pfizer").
What I don't like is that if I download my county "Smart Card" into CommonHealth app or use the Verifier app to scan the QR code, the booster maker shows as SANOFI PASTEUR - which was never allowed in the US.
One thing I noticed is that my Walgreens paper card has some atrocious handwriting, and the Lot number can be interpreted in many ways. The county people filled the Lot number using their best guess - but is it possible that an incorrect Lot number would cause the SmartCard system to identify the booster as Sanofi?
(Strangely, the Walgreens QR code does not contain the info on the Lot number.)
Naturally, I can bring both QR codes, but I want to avoid some immigration official getting all jittery about having an info on two different shots by two different makers done on the same day.
Thanks!!

No. I am talking about:Are you talking about Sanofi producing one of the approved vaccines under license? (Was that ever a thing?) Or an actual Sanofi vaccine?
1) me taking a Pfizer COVID booster,
2) county officials manually entering that info into county database
3) the database generating a QR-code vaccination record that goes into the (national) Smart Card system
4) which - when the QR code is verified - incorrectly says that the vaccination was SANOFI PASTEUR
I am just trying to figure out what glitch caused the Smart Card conclude that my booster was Sanofi - and I asked here if somebody knows whether the unreadable Lot number on my paper vaccination card might have been the reason (do different vaccine makers have separate ranges of Lot numbers, for example?)

Not sure how many people know Emily Oster. She is quite a big econ star because of her often controversial opinions (low alcohol consumption during pregnancy is OK, high ratio of men to women in China is due to Hepatitis B, etc.) Here is her bio:

Anyway, Oster (herself an important proponent of lockdowns - though she argued schools should be opened) just penned an article for The Atlantic calling for the "amnesty" for people who were proponents of strong COVID measures:

Needless to say, Twitter, Wall Street Journal Editorial Board, and Zerohedge did not like it.
