Maybe this covid will cancel out her long covid…
I only say that half jokingly. The build up of antibodies to fight the current one might fully kick out the rest from the last one (if the theory of covid virus staying hidden in the body and causing long covid is right… no one really knows).

Viruses staying hidden for years like the Chickenpox/Shingles is really scary. My dad had shingles in his 70's, over 65 years after having chickenpox.Maybe this covid will cancel out her long covid…

I should get those shots.

Yes you should. My wife got shingles a few years back. It was not fun.

Saw on the news this morning that the CDC intends to further relax COVID guidance including removal of quarantine, replaced by 10 days of masking instead

Yeah I see no problem with removing the quarantine option at this point. It's time.

Agreed. When I told my neighbor my daughter couldn't make it over for their activity night on Saturday, you could tell he almost felt bad and just said "You know, at some point we need to start treating this like an endemic illness." I don't think anyone is saying to be reckless and go out in public when you are in the full-blown stages of acute illness, but the extensive quarantines are not feasible long-term.but, there's no formal quarantine requirement for the flu either. At some point we were going to get to the place where this is just another illness, and it looks like we're almost there
Re: long covid....are most of the long COVID cases associated with the Delta variant from 2021? I don't hear much about people getting COVID now and dealing with it.

I haven't heard much about the new version causing long-term issues, at least not as much as the prior
COVID-19
12.7% of adults w/COVID have symptoms lasting longer than 2 years.I still don't think there's really enough data, or anything that I've seen that points to any one person getting long-covid. Seems like it's relatively random, and they won't stop the world for that.

I think the change is merely reflecting the reality we now have. While the vaccines have been good at preventing death and serious illness, they do not stop infection or transmission (slow it, but don't stop it), and there is immune escape for new variants. So we're all going to get Covid, and if you've already had Covid you're probably going to get it again, and if you've already had it multiple times you can still get it another time. (My brother just got over his third Covid infection.) And that pattern will likely continue on a timeline of "from now to forever," just like we get new flu variants every year.
