As much as I want them to finish dead ass last, I still want them to win every time I watch. Its weird.

TIL the Yankees outscored the Pirates 55-27 in the 1960 WS. They won their three games 16-3, 10-0, and 12-0. Has to be a Top 3 upset in WS History given the Yankees powerhouse status at that time, no?

I wonder if the outcome would have been different had Stengel started Ford in Game 1. To leave him available for 7.
I'd love to read more from the Yankees side on this. From what I remember, there are some players that are still alive today from the Yanks that are still pissed they lost. Good.

I can't even muster up support for the players anymore. Rooting for the roof to cave in is the only way.

Hayes is fun to watch, tbh. But yeah. I need them to lose so Cherington can start filling the minors with talent.

Ah I'm sure this has been said thousands of different times from true believers dating back to 1992.

I don't what it is with middle age or whatever, but watching following the Pirates is stress free. I have no expectations for any level of success.

Penguins, Steelers, and Clemson football are stress inducing and the closer to the playoffs/championship, the more I dislike watching them. It's nuts.

Because expectations are driving them now. They're expected to perform well. The Pirates, are just expected to exist.

Amen. Although, I was happy they cleaned house with management, and am curious as to what they'll do in the next 5 years. Small market teams have shown that winning is possible with the right management in place.

Nice to see them back in tank mode. It's honestly impressive just how bad this team is. WAR leaders are Stallings (0.9), Hayes (0.7, 9 GP), EGon (0.6), Tropeano (who? 0.6), and Hartlieb (0.5). Lots of clutter at the bottom end of the list, but Polanco (-1.2), Tucker, (-0.9), Newman (-0.8), Holland (-0.8), and Bell (-0.8) are doing a good job stealing paychecks. On Fangraphs, out of 150 qualified batters Reynolds is 133, Bell 139, and Newman 147. Expand that to combined WAR for all players and Polanco comes in at a steady 1249 out of 1251.

With BR's team WAR by position the Pirates are just a sea of depression. 30th in the league at an overall WAR of -12. Next closest is Detroit at -7.6. Total pitching, starting pitching, non-pitchers, centerfield, outfield, and pinch hitters are all dead last in the league. Right field is a robust 29th. Despite the ineptitude of Murphy, the best performing position is catcher at 12th with a WAR of 0.2.

Two weeks left in the season and I would feign interest if Will Craig and Jared Oliva got a legitimate look to close out the season, but I expect they'll be left to rot in Altoona while I check box scores and KeBryan Hayes highlights.

I'm also glad that Hayes has gotten three games off since his promotion on September 1st, the poor guy is probably feeling like the settlers on the Oregon Trail video game after you set it to the fastest pace and set rations to meager.
