Yeah everyone kinda plays .500 ball for a while so 17 wins is probably way too low. I'm sticking with it

It's gonna be odd, weird things are gonna happen. A 7 game streak one way or the other for anyone can really change things quickly. Pirates start 2-8 or something and 17 is definitely in play

Don't we have a 13% chance to win the World Series? Or something? Playoffs? Division? I can't remember.

KDKA says 13.8% of making the playoffs, but I don't think that's right.
The same article says 6.7% chance of winning the division and 7.1% chance of winning the Wild Card.

6.7%+7.1%=13.8%.
Assuming you count the Wildcard as playoffs.

So I guess that would be roughly 1:8 odds on them *not* making the postseason in any way. Is there a sports book I can put down 8 grand on that?

I understood how they got to their numbers. I'm just not in agreement with how they got there.6.7%+7.1%=13.8%.
Assuming you count the Wildcard as playoffs.
My point was making the playoffs should be viewed as making the wild card, which would be 6.7%. So why are they adding both percentages?

You're right in a way. The wildcard isn't the playoffs so that shouldn't be included in the overall chance.

So we have at least two players who are ambivalent to playing for the Pirates - Kela was meh on the Buccos last year (publicly) and Dyson said the Pirates contract was the only one offered to him. That's not optimal.

Puig hasn't signed anywhere yet? I guess they don't need another underperforming right fielder, but still...

do other teams have the same experiences with people completely mailing it in, or is that strictly a pirates thing? Over the last 20 years there have been so damn many. Derek bell, Raul modesi, Ramon martinez, chisenhall, kela, probably a few more im forgetting

There was another Pirate (right fielder maybe) who was a real dog when he signed here. Barely made an effort to run to first on easy outs. George Hendricks comes to mind but I don't think it was him. Maybe late 80's?
