Then don't play, no judgements. But understand this opportunity to help your family and gain a greater voice to be an advocate for social justice through playing sports doesn't exist without the associated entertainment value.

If enough don't play, the world will go on without college sports.

This is one of those statements that sounds profound, etc... until you spend 5 seconds thinking about the implications of it.

They have the option to sit out and still have their scholarship honored.

I do agree with some of their demands, but some are ridiculous if not impossible legally (using university endownments to fund sports).

The endowment shaming, if you will, always annoys me. Most people don't know how endowments work

The older I get and the more I think the whole college athletic system should be scrapped, and I say that as a huge college sports fan. Phil Knight's support of the aforementioned U of O is a good example of why. Encourage boosters to put more $ towards education of academically excellent and/or underprivileged urban and rural youth in the communities they serve. That supports the University's mission more than a 7th alternate football uniform.

My school doesn't have football, but relies on athletics to bring students to campus. We're D2, so no full scholarships and these students are required to live on campus and get meal plans.

Without athletics, we'd have 400 students and probably close, or get swallowed by the state system (which might not be a bad idea).

So incredibly dumb, but I want grandma's to die and I hate science so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

People who think there is going to be spring football are maroons. You think kids are going to opt out now?

On top of that you can't run a full season through May and then expect a new season to start in August.

I had one of the worst weeks of my adult life probably last week, but if we can turn it around this coming week, I'd be so thankful...an announcement of not having to watch Rutgers football for a season would be a step in the right direction...

You also can forget about an extra year of eligibility. That's insane to contemplate for recruiting classes and coaches.

If they cancel the season none of this will ever be the same again. It is what it is.
