I’m pretty sure that when Michigan State officials set out to hire a replacement for Dantonio they didn’t think they’d end up with a dude with a 5-7 record and one year of head coaching experience at a school no one really cares about. Few things can humble a program more than ending up with a hire who wasn’t even on your wish list.

Hard to fault a college football coach for his first year on the job with a team he didn't recruit at a school not exactly known for football prowess. That said, still an odd pick to replace a university legend.
