i dont know much about what the steelers drafted but

1st round - minkah fitzpatrick
2nd round - tall fast receiver
3rd round - line back that clemson player said was the best he went against all year
4th round - fast person - not sure about this one
5th round - apparently very good guard

sounds like they did ok

i mean this is an 8-8 team with holes and they used their 2nd round pick for the third straight year on a wide reciever. i think the 1-3 combo of juju warshington and dionte johnson is good enough that they didn't need a 2nd round wr when there are needs elsewhere

The only thing about that second rounder, was that he had planned to move to TE IIRC. Maybe they're trying to be unconventional about not doing anything with TE in FA aside from Ebron?

They have a major hole there, past Ebron, imo.

Meaning, they can go three wide, with two TEs if they wanted.

JuJu, Johnson, Washington, New Guy, Ebron.

Seems like it could be lethal.

Considering the deteriorating line play, looks like they stink again. Defense will be good though.

JuJu is in the final year of his deal and will either suck his way off the team or excel into a contract that's too expensive to retain him.

As far as the line, whoever they put in Ramon's place (Feiler apparently is getting first crack) will be an upgrade. My bigger concern is the sudden and likely irreversible downfall of Pouncey.

Receiving corps: young, good
Offensive line: old, not so good

So of course they spend their first pick on a receiver, and of course the sycophantic blogosphere loves it because Dem Stillers have never had a bad draft pick ever. Unless the plan is to let Juju walk (which isn't a bad plan) this ain't great.

Can't they keep juju for a 5th year?

Only first round picks have the optional 5th year.

They can franchise tag him.

That guy they just drafted is 6 4 and ran a 4.4. That's fast enough, imo. The problem they've always had was red-zone, hopefully this guy and Ebron solve that problem.

Re franchise tag of JJSS

His contract salary amount for 2020 is just over $1 million, with a hit of around $1.3 million.

Franchise tagging a WR in 2020 means salary and cap hit of of $17.8 million; it will probably be more than that in 2021 when they're considering throwing the tag on JJSS. And whether or not the player signs the tender and plays, as soon as the team designates the player with the tag, the cap hit is locked in.

Granted, whether or not they sign him to a second contract or not, he's getting a big raise.

Should be more than Bud's but I assume Bud rolls off after this year, either with a new deal, or FA.

I read a piece on ESPN yesterday--the gist of the article was that the AFC North basically crushed this draft--the Bengals had a great draft, the Ravens made their offense virtually unstoppable, and the Browns even did well. The one team that, by ESPN's standards, was a draft "loser" was the Steelers.

That said, I think Jackson is going to regress considerably this year--at least I hope.

to me, an RB doesnt make the ravens offense any more dynamic

I agree with that, Either LJ repeats his 2019 and the offense racks up points, or he regresses and drags the whole offense down with him

Dobbins is a wasted pick with Lamar Jackson as the QB. You don’t need to spend a high pick on a guy, when you already have three running backs including Mark Ingram, to get a bakers dozen of carries a game.

Getting two ILBs is a good haul...but dobbins is basically a clone of Ingram...and they already have Ingram

Was not having a 1st a part of that poor rating?

DK posted a 2017 NFL draft recap with the Steelers picks, with Kiper, McShay and others weighing in. Instant draft analysis isn't great.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper, whose name has become synonymous with the draft, gave that a B-plus, taking care to note, “I had Tyus Bowser rated higher than Watt, but it was close.” Which it absolutely hasn’t been. Bowser’s a special teams guy in Baltimore, with 46 tackles in 47 NFL games.

ESPN’s newer darling, Todd McShay, deferred to Kiper on grades that year, but he did identify each team’s ‘best pick’ in that draft. His pick for the Steelers: Josh Dobbs. Added that he’d have selected Dobbs at No. 63 overall rather than where the Steelers got him at No. 136.

CBS’ Pete Prisco gave a C, barely breathed a syllable about Watt and observed, “I thought Smith-Schuster went a little high, but Sutton was a really nice pick.”

they drafted minkah fitzpatrick with their 1st round pick
That's what I was wondering, are they treating that as the first pick (which it ain't) when they are judging the draft. I've never heard that sort of logic with the NHL draft.
