I'm not saying you're wrong SSB, but...... there are numerous no-fly zone for tourists on the islands. "Robin Hood beaches" are a thing. I think there's a sizeable chunk of the population that's kind of okay with the idea of more or less disbanding tourism and letting the chips fall where they may.

Yeah, I’ve seen the same. The problem lies with the tourists who a) disregard the rules for their own vacation, b) ignore local rules and customs in general (like private property signs), and c) are just shitty tourists in general. Most locals welcome tourists. We visit, spend a good deal of money, which helps their economy, and have a great time. Others just don’t give a **** about Hawaiian culture, and if they stop going because they’re upset over this stuff - good.

I see plenty of people claiming they’ll take their money to Mexico and Aruba instead where they’ll always “feel welcome”. See ya, Karen. It’s these entitled nitwits that I’m looking forward to not seeing on the islands when we finally return.

What is everyone doing about vacation time this summer? We're still taking at least one week, even if we don't go anywhere (which is likely the case). I was thinking of spending one day at the Bronx Zoo if things are okay, but I'm coming up short on what else to do. Sitting at home doing nothing is not ideal, either.

We just bought a new house and my wife just took on a new job, so we didn't have a plan for a vacation anyways. Kind of nice not to have to cancel one. Some of my co-workers are trying to book last minute beach trips now that everything is opening back up, but that sounds like an absolute nightmare.

If the Jersey shore wasn't a shithole, I'd consider spending a day on the beach.

We're likely going to drive down to Florida and stay with my folks for a few days. We'd feel better since we wouldn't have to stay in hotels or fly. And, my folks have been pretty well isolated. Same with us, for that matter. I'm not super thrilled about it, but my fiancé may kill me if I tell her we have to stay in town all summer.

We have the option of making the drive to Hilton Head, but I really don't want to spend 11 hours in the car.

My parents ended up renting a house in Hilton Head for two weeks in August (dependent on the whole Rona situation by then).

I'm considering joining them for a week if it happens, though am still unsure what the world landscape will look like at that point.

The Florida drive is 16 hours. Going to be rough.

We may drive out to Pittsburgh for a long weekend, since we haven't been back in a while. I hate 2020 so **** much.

Probably gonna do a week of fishing with my dad in August... Might go visit some relatives in NC in September, not sure yet.

Aren't some of you in NC? I haven't been to Kitty Hawk since I was a kid. That's just under a 7 hour drive.

I just got my fourth week of vaca this year, rolled 8 days over, so i have a pile of time to use. I guess a week-long archery season vacation won't be a bad thing.

We had a week off at the end of July for to go to a wedding in canada for my wife's best friend. That got moved. Since we just bought a house we are keeping that week off and just doing things around the house etc.

I still have basically almost 3 weeks to plan, so will figure out something. I always take a nice long break at the end of year from Christmas to new years so some will go towards that.

We're still going to Emerald Isle, made the last payment last week. It is oceanfront, apart from doing a fishing charter we'll just hang out at the beach all week and cook in.

I was looking at Emerald Isle. I shifted closer to home, and am now looking at Ocean City, Maryland. I've never been there before, and my wife has concerns about what we'd be able to do outside of going to the beach. Anyone ever visit there before?

I love Ocean City. Now, it should be noted that it's extremely commercialized. Far more than Hilton Head or OBX. But, that's what I enjoyed about it. I'm not a sit at the beach for 10 hours kind of guy. To that end, there's plenty to do outside of the beach. But, the beach may be more crowded than you're used to at HH or OBX.

Got any tips on things to do? We definitely won't be sitting at the beach all day. I also hope that it's less crowded than normal due to Covid, but that's probably a pipe dream.

For instance, if they have bike trails, that's something we'd definitely be interested in. I assume they probably have some mini golf, too.

Lots of mini-golf. There's also an amusement/water park that was a lot of fun. They had a master blaster slide, so that's a bonus. Tons of shops, a boardwalk, tons of restaurants, Ripley's Believe it or not, go-carts, water sports. Honestly, anything you can think of, it's probably available.

There are also a bunch of high-rise hotels/condos for rent. If you prefer a quieter beach experience, you may want to steer clear of those.

Hmm. Most of those sound doable, but I'll still probably avoid crowds. Appreciate it, nocera! :thumb:

No problem. I can't understate how different it is from HH and OBX. I mention that because a lot of my family didn't like it due to how commercialized it is. I liked it exactly for that reason.

We are still going to Nags Head in mid-August. My in-laws will be with us as they are every year, in addition to our daughter's godmother and her husband (close friends). Same group as last year. Can't effin' wait.

I have no problems with the commercialization. Hell, we went to Myrtle Beach last year, and that's a far cry from HHI.

What do you think of the area around 45th street? That's where I'm currently looking.
