any recommendations for dinners in nyc? mrs litt and i are making a trip for a long weekend. budget isn't a huge determining factor (would like to keep it below 250 total)
Mrs Tif and I have wanted to do a long weekend trip to NYC and we have a list of restaurants we want to visit. It's like 20+ places, so our 'long weekend' is more like a month.
If I had to pick just one, it'd be Le Bernardin. That's probably a bit more spendy than you're talking about, so maybe look into Momofuku Ssam Bar.
mrs litt not a big fan of the fishes

Well that simplifies it, then.

Any DC restaurant suggestions? I'm staying near the convention center and don't want to deal with driving so walking distance would be preferred. Looking for anything from sandwich shops to fancy dinners.

What do you consider walking distance?
From previous discussions:
- Right across from the arena on 6th Street is Daikaya-Ramen/ Izakaya, which is delicious. The first floor is Daikaya-Ramen, a quick eat ramen shop. The second floor is Izakaya, a sit down Japanese restaurant.
- Three blocks down from the arena are two of Jose Andres' moderately priced restaurants. Jaleo is a Spanish restaurant and is fine. Oyamel Cocina Mexicana is, obviously, a Mexican restaurant and is pretty damn delicious. Would recommend over Jaleo. A block down and west from the arena is minibar by Jose Andres, which is his two Michelin Star winning restaurant.
Old Ebbitt Grill is also excellent, there's also Momofuku CCDC and Milk Bar CityCenterDC.

Eh, a mile or so would be walking distance, I guess. Thanks for pasting from a previous discussion. I guess I should've searched first.

I would not recommend Oyamel over Jaleo, but it is still outstanding. (I've eaten at two different Jaleo locations in the same day, so I'm biased) minibar will require a second mortgage, and probably two months' notice to get a reservation.
Also, Metro is your friend. If none of those options float your boat, there are plenty of choices further out accessible by subway.

I ate at Old Ebbit Grill last time I was in town and I agree it was excellent. I probably won't venture down that way this time around. I'm feeling much lazier than I was this time last year.

I had a couple wonderful dinners there the last few years.
Do yinz really think the Metro sucks? I think it's better than most public transportation systems.

I'm tainted by my buddy that lives there and hates the Metro more than anything in the world. The only time I rode it was on a 105 degree day and the A/C was down in my car, so I've had a 100% failure rate on the metro

Nah I've ridden it before and it's cleaner than most metros. I cannot overstate how lazy I feel this trip.

Honest to god this also applies to Septa. I have been on two trains that caught fire so far - one where they didn’t tell us why we were stopped, and I googled the news to see a picture of the train I was on while it was on fire.

My SIL's mother is making noise about wanting to take another trip to Japan, so there's a chance I might be able to go again some time in 2019.

Yes, it would be to the same areas, particularly Tokyo and Nagoya. That's sort of a downside, as my SIL (and me too) would like to go to other places that wasn't able to go to herself when she lived in Japan, such as Hokkaido and Kyushu. Also, her mother is a bit of a wet blanket when it comes to eating in the really interesting places like back-alley izakayas and subway-station ramen shops. But apparently her mother offered to pay for first-class airline tickets for my SIL and brother if they would go along and act as her escorts/porters/travel agents, and that's not an easy offer to turn down. If they do go, the offer has been extended for me to tag along. (At my own expense, which will not be first class; I'm not going above premium economy).

I'm not sure it's been concretely confirmed, but it's looking like Wow Air is axing Pittsburgh service effective early January 2019. Wow Air also returned four leased aircraft today (or the aircraft were repo'ed; it's not totally clear), and it looks like bunch of other routes are either being reduced or suspended. There are also rumblings that the Icelandair buyout/takeover might be in jeopardy.
