United adds a non-stop route from PIT to Hilton Head on the new CRJ-550. I prefer flying into SAV because it’s a non-stop route for me, but that’s a nice route and flight. For years, I would fly into HHH via CLT on a Dash-8.
Travel Thread
"New" should sorta be in quotes there, because none of the CRJ-550s are new aircraft. Every CRJ-550 is just a refurbished existing CRJ-700 that's been given a new interior with more first-class and premium-economy seats. It'd be more accurate to call it something like the CRJ-700NI (for "nicer interior" or "new interior"), but they gave it an entirely different name for some reason. Those would be the ones to look for if one's going to be on a CRJ, because they do have the newest and nicest interior.
The final CRJ (A CRJ-900 that will be operated by SkyWest as Delta Connection) was delivered at the end of February, so the aircraft is now officially out of production.

Huh, I grew up a couple of towns over. Left in 1987 to move to Pittsburgh. I've been back once, in 1992. We used to go to the Peabody Essex Museum and the Witch House for school trips.
Woodman's Clam House in Essex was really good, about 20 minutes from Salem (and it's featured on a Beastie Boys song!) https://www.woodmans.com/restaurants/menus/

@tifosi77, if you remember my fiance and I were originally planning a Cali honeymoon, starting in SF and working our way down to Anaheim, seeing friends and doing touristy **** on the way. What's the COVID climate there at the moment? This trip would now be happening in the second week of July. Is it worth it? I don't want to go if most places are still shut down (or if it's unsafe obviously).

@nocera
We're reopening at a steady rate; I fully expect to be having a Vax-a-palooza gathering with friends by July, and I'm super conservative about this stuff. Disney parks are on track to reopen April 30th. The Peninsula counties along SF Bay (SF, San Mateo, Santa Clara), and LA and Orange Counties are technically Orange and trending rapidly towards Yellow. Wine Country up north, Central Coast, and Temecula are all still in Purple, but I don't expect that the last much longer.
Despite my own woes with scheduling, we've already hit the bottleneck with vaccinations where it's a demand issue vs a supply issue, which is a good problem to have. And as noted in the COVID thread, we're removing all age tiers for vaxxing in a couple weeks.

I appreciate the insight. We're going to have to make a discussion fairly soon here on the honeymoon thing. If things are open and cases aren't soaring, I think it'd be a great trip.

Are you driving the PCH on the way down? My wife and I did that from SF to SD back in like 2012.

Yeah that's the plan. I was also considering taking the trip on the Coast Starlight Amtrak train, but I think we'd rather have the freedom to explore along the way.Are you driving the PCH on the way down? My wife and I did that from SF to SD back in like 2012.
Coast Starlight is on the bucket list though.

If you do, check out the current state of the PCH. They’ve had some road collapses recently in parts of it, so you’ll have to detour in some spots. We enjoyed it, especially up north. The further south you go, the less appealing it is, IMO.Yeah that's the plan. I've taken two shorter trips on the PCH and thought the same thing. We drove from SF down to Monterey and Newport Beach to San Diego. The northern trip was much more enjoyable, although both were great.If you do, check out the current state of the PCH. There's a chunk of PCH through Los Angeles that is actually nowhere near the coast.
Also, up north it's nice because it's all mostly scenery. Down here, it's through cities and such, so it's much less scenic.

If you two are able to make the trip do yourselves a favor and stop for a bite here https://smokerjim.com/ it is a bit pricey but it is worth every cent.@tifosi77, if you remember my fiance and I were originally planning a Cali honeymoon, starting in SF and working our way down to Anaheim, seeing friends and doing touristy **** on the way. Thanks LBL. That looks awesome.
Yeah I know the PCH isn’t super great around LA. I don’t think we’ll stick to it the whole time, eventually hopping over to the 101. It’s still in very early planning since even the wedding was still up in the air just a few weeks ago.

Off topic but somewhat in line with the overall subject of travel: we took our kids to Legoland in Columbus. I had the grand idea of making a new attraction of a huge slide with nothing but Legos on the bottom for the kids to step on. Karma, dodintsI hope you step on a lego when getting out of bed tomorrow morning, tif.
