West Virginia is the greatest state in the history of the world.Just my opinion but I thought Charleston was lovely. The state capitol building is one of the nicest in my opinion. Funky restaurants in the City Center neighborhood.
We only spent an afternoon there but I thought it was a nice place.

My wife's family is from Poughkeepsie.... I've been to CIA a couple of times, always a fun trip. How far up are you going? I'd love to go to CIA (Culinary Institute of America) for an afternoon.
One thing to note: there are a surprisingly few bridge crossings over the Hudson between NYC and Albany. Not sure about ferries, but you might want to keep that in mind.
@eddy, that stretch between Bear Mountain and Fishkill is nice. Cold Spring definitely worth a stop. West Point is worth a stop too.

Through security in 15 minutes despite 3 different officers giving 3 different direction for a stroller. one told me to fold it up and send it throigh the machine (no way it would've actually fit ). Then another guy says push it through xray before a third comes and takes it through the side door. As they're doing it the one guy quips "hah, traveling with kids is so stressful huh" and I said nah, just getting through TSA is. Then my wife asks the one agent if she has to put breast milk separate, he says no, then another agent says yeah you can't have your shoes back until I test this breastmilk. Oh well. Almost beer thirty.

We'll be flying commercially to the moon in the future, and we'll still be taking off our shoes before boarding.

The shoe thing drives me insane. I'm always surprised how many people l see traveling in flip flops. That skeeves me out, I can only imagine how nasty those floors are.

I don't understand why the detectors aren't calibrated the same everywhere. Two weeks ago went through in PIT, no problem. Coming back in CLT, same belt, same shoes, triggered the alarm. "It's in the middle, take your belt off and go back through." OK. Go back through. Triggered alarm. "OK, now it's your shoes." Third time everything good.
I thought part of the deal with TSA PRE was not having to remove your belt and shoes?

My belt triggers the medal detector a lot but never in ATL. they never ask me to remove it, they just use the wand and let me go.

I swear the inconsistency is to either entertain the agents or just keep them alert.

I sort of plan for the actual screen part to be no different with Pre√ even though that's supposed to be part of the deal at participating airports and airlines. Pre√ basically allows you to skip a few hundred people and save that time. But in terms of the shoes and belt thing, you're already in the Pre√ line, not removing those items doesn't really save anything other than hassle; putting them back on takes maybe 30s or so that you would spend in regular TSA, so just dock it out of the time you save by skipping the regular line in the first place and you're still ahead of the curve.
Most of it is Masterpiece Theater, anyway.

I mean, flying out of a little regional airport like BUR is usually no big deal anyway. There might only 8 or 10 other flights they're screening passengers for at the same time, and they're all narrow body types (so not too many passengers). So even at worst it's often no more than 20 minutes in TSA.
You eliminate the hassle altogether if you have the option of flying a boutique carrier like JSX.

So I know it's bad form to compliment AA in this thread but I'm going to do it anyway.
Pre COVID, if you were a low level plebe AAdvantage Gold you could request standby same-day for free or pay $75 for a confirmed change. I didn't realize I had to pick up Middle Franchise at PSU tomorrow when I planned my trip this week and needed to fly home from CLT first thing in the morning instead of after getting 6 hrs in at the site. Figured they were gonna hit me for $75 (boss wouldn't have cared about paying it but still).
Logged in this morning and was able to switch online for free to a half full early flight. Not only that but an hour later got the first class upgrade.
I have had both Air Canada and Delta try to get me to give them $75 at the gate to take a seat on a nearly empty earlier flight when I was on a later full one. Apparently AA has installed some algorithm that lets you switch, confirmed, for free if it makes sense.
I mean, there's still plenty of time for them to eff this up but so far, nice job AA.

Checked my TSA Pre status before my flight to Ireland next week, and was happy to see I am active!
Then I found out that Aer Lingus is one of the few airlines that does not participate in Pre. Phooey.

How do so many non Precheck people end up in the Precheck line? It’s at least 2 every time.
Also have seen a few people arguing with TSA agents- “BUT I’M PRECHECK.” Not if your boarding pass doesn’t say it, cha cha. Go talk to your airline or get in the long(er) line.
