As a nervous flyer (not just the imminent threat of death, but also the logistics of my bags, getting through security, etc.) that would not amuse me.

That is a very un-David Simon like tweet. He might be the angriest man on Twitter, although he does entertain me.

From a woman friend in Jersey:
“Hey! I am trying to plan a girls weekend away. We are thinking of Nashville- but that seems pricey. So Pittsburgh is between where the two of us live. I know you travel there do you have any suggestions? We want to bar hop and basically not do any adulting for 2 days. We would like to be within walking distance or a short Uber or shuttle to and from a good nightlife scene. Live music a plus.”
Is Carson St./Station Square the best suggestion?

Once you're 21 you're too old for South Side

Birmingham Bridge and west is the **** show. If you go east from there you get the dives, Library, OTB, etc which are more geared to the older crowd.

Or just stay downtown. Then you're walking distance to the North shore, cultural district, and strip district.

These ladies are in their 40s. If that gives you some point of reference for more suggestions.

I would go Lawrenceville then. Yeah, it's hipster, but it's also a more relaxed vibe than South Side. The bars are great, a few options for late night eats, could go to Arsenal Bowl as well which is a lot of fun.

A co-worker recommended that we spend some time in Carmel-by-the-Sea while on the honeymoon. What do the NoCal folks think of that?

It's pretty in terms of scenery, but there really isn't much to do. If you can, take the short car ride around the peninsula into Pacific Grove and Monterey. Much more going on (the aquarium is outstanding), and the scenery is largely the same. Shopping is nicer in CBTS, but there are better restaurants in PG/Monterey (I recommend lunch at A Taste Of Monterey, and dinner at Passionfish).
If you do hit the Monterey Peninsula, check to see what's going on at Pebble Beach. They have several non-golf events throughout the year, and it can be pretty hectic and spoil your fun if you're not there for that event. Especially so during the time of the Concours D'elegance car show (which is late summer iirc); hotel rates treble, if you can even find a room within 50 miles, but you'll be treated to quite the spectacle of man and machine.
