If approaching NJ around 8PM, is it better to stay on the turnpike and stay north of Philly or branch off to 76 through Philly? Going to the Medford area...
@dodint's answer is correct, but if it were me, I'd stay on the PATP the entire time, crossing over into NJ and then taking 295 South. 76 is the absolute worst, and there is never a guarantee that you won't run into massive traffic at any time of day. It's just not worth it.
Medford is two towns over from me. I agree with the above recommendation.

Hit Donkey’s Place Too in Medford for the “cheesesteak” Anthony Bourdain called “the best.”

(He actually ate at Donkey’s Place in Camden.)

Carmelized onions, steak and cheese on a round poppy seed roll.

It's considered an abomination in purist circles, but those that try it, love it.

The simple answer here is to check Google Maps for traffic. If you are leaving during off hours, the PATP would be a solid 30+ minutes out of your way if you are going to the Medford area.

I-76 normally doesn't start to clear out until close to 8, so just check traffic when you are right around mile marker 320.

What? That's still wrong. The speed limit is higher on the PATP, so you can easily make up the added distance.

It's normally 35-40 minutes shorter assuming no traffic on 76. And yes, that is with the speed limit differential. Even with light traffic on 76 it's still a little faster.

Not to mention that the PATP eastbound can be a total nightmare on Friday afternoon/evening. I've seen backups of 45+ minutes just from volume from KoP east to Willow Grove.

A....death race?

One thing I have been very happy about is how awesome the NJTP is now. It is such a breeze driving up to NYC and points beyond now that they have the NJTP widened to 5+ lanes each way for such a large portion of it. That road is a thing of beauty until you get right in the immediate NY area, it used to be awful when it was three lanes each way down towards the PATP. I remember that horrible merge where the car/truck lanes ended.

Yes, if there's no traffic on the Schuylkill, it's faster, but as noted, there a frequently severe delays. People going into town on a Friday night adds to traffic.

Dōtonbori is near where Mrs Tif lived.

Everything in that video looks spectacularly tasty. The crab brain thing (kani miso) is similar to a dish I had at Swan Oyster Depot a few months ago, which was quite unfairly delicious and decadent. (It was also served cold, which I was not expecting.) And I will tell you, if they don't manage to get all the crab gills out and you end up ingesting one, it will pretty much be the ruination of your entire day and might even leech over into poisoning your next day as well. Don't eat crab gills.

Didn't make it to donkey's, but my brother is a fan. Ate some good hangover food at Vincentown diner. Also hogbacks hoagies or something like that from bordentown? Good travel tips, avoided Philly. Thanks to all.

Vincentown Diner is not too shabby for a diner.

Big supporter of local products.

I'm thinking about going to Myrtle Beach this year for vacation, but JFC is the airfare and car rental insane. I may just stick with Hilton Head after all.

Yeah, no **** way am I flying Sprint, sorry. :) I'm looking at late June, so prices are going to be higher. My wife wants to go back to SFO, but I don't think my daughter would appreciate that trip just yet. I could burn 89k miles for all three of us in first class (which, on an ERJ-145 isn't exactly special). That may be worth it.

Understand. For what it's worth, 10 of us had zero issues with the flight.

Just for the hell of it, I checked Sprint's prices for that time - same as American's, but with poor departure times.
