San Diego's main big small brewer is Ballast Point; their downtown taproom is in Little Italy, by the airport. Stone, Modern Times, Alesmith, Belching Beaver, Pizza Port, Societe, Karl Strauss, Alpine......... they're all SD or SD-adjacent. SoCal generally is pretty filthy with really good craft beer.

Next time we go to SD we want to stay at the Hotel del Coronado. (There's a really good newish seafood-focused restaurant there, whose name escapes me at the moment) Coronado is just a short water taxi ride across the bay, but it's even more relaxed and chill.

I tend to not go to breweries when I travel anymore... I prefer to go to craft beer bars that have a variety of local offerings. The beer is something I'm definitely looking forward to. I'll be heading to a Padres game too. Love summer baseball.

I'll be there for work, so I won't be doing any beachy kind of stuff, but might give Coronado a look. Mostly just looking for evening things to do and see.

SD Zoo is right where you're going to be, too.

SD food is extremely disappointing. I’ve been there twice and have tried like six or seven restaurants in total. All meh or worse

The SD zoo is nice, but it’s still a zoo at the end of the day. I’d recommend the Midway way more.

I was there about 5 years ago and Oscars was the only place that I even remotely remember, so we're going back there. I'll take a look at reddit and other places to find some hidden gems. Hopefully I can find some good spots.

Good luck. I tried to do both. Looked at highest rated Google/Yelp places and well as the hole in the wall local places that you need the secret map to find. All meh

Love the Beaver. I’d also recommend the .394 ale which is a homage to Tony Gwynn’s highest season batting average.

We went to a fantastic fish market in La Jolla but otherwise I remember nothing about the food in San Diego.

I really liked walking around Coronado. We were there for lunch and went to this place:
https://lobsterwest.com/

At the time, I didn't realize it was a local chain. We weren't really looking for lobster but the roll, a cup of soup, and a beer was perfect for lunch. Nothing else food-wise really stands out from our time there. The Padres ballpark was pretty cool.

Wife: What are you doing?
Me: Installing Halo so I can...
Wife: No. No you're not. We're going on vacation!

Guess I'm not playing Halo at the airport or on the plane.

Shopping travel company itineraries for our Iberian adventure. Lisbon, Madrid, Sevilla. The plans we've been given so far include day trips to places like Toledo, Ronda, Sintra, & Cascais as well, but I'm not too sure I want to dilute our travel with that much sub-travel. I know a certain Gaucho who might have recommendations for things to do (or not do) in some of these places, so if that certain Gaucho were to be inclined to provide such recommendations they would be appreciated.

Tomorrow’s going to be the longest day of the year for me. Laundry, packing for our trip, and then just waiting. And waiting.
