I'm flying Spirit next week to Tampa. $100 round trip, but I'm flying out mid week and basically have to stay in Florida for a full week since they only have 3(?) round trips flights during the week. Surprisingly my flight times aren't terrible: depart 9:50 from Latrobe, arrive some time after noon.

Spirit is good if you can find a dirt cheap fare since they charge for carry-ons, checked bags, seats, and oxygen. (OK the last one hasn't been implemented...yet.)

I'm thinking about going to Myrtle Beach this year for vacation, but JFC is the airfare and car rental insane. I may just stick with Hilton Head after all.
I went in October with Spirit out of Latrobe to Myrtle for $82
Which part of Myrtle Beach did you stay in? I haven't been there in 20 years, and the places I'm looking at are all 5-7 miles north of the airport (not quite North MB).

We just flew into there and drove to Charleston

98% of the people that have issues with Spirit don't know how to read the rules and go online and complain when Spirit enforces their very clearly defined policies

I’m sure there are plenty of people who fly Sprint regularly without issue. It makes no sense for me, given that they still can’t beat AA’s prices for me at PHL. It makes even less sense for me to fly them given that I a) don’t pay for baggage, b) have nearly 1m miles with, and c) have much more flexibility in terms of departure/arrival times, all with AA.

Well yeah, if you have that many miles and live less than an hour from their main hub, I don't blame you

I just got my thank you email for being in United MileagePlus 20-years. I've been to Hawai'i four times, Europe three times, Japan, Singapore/Vietnam, and travel within CONUS 2-3 times most years, almost all of that on United or a Star Alliance carrier. And I have a United credit card that's been used to make over $20k in purchases in three years. And my miles balance is only 270k.

How the effing eff do you get to 1 million miles??

Myrtle Beach is crowded and gross. But if you do go, stay near Litchfield or Pawley's island.

What LITT said. I churn the hell out of Citi AA Platinum cards, averaging 350k miles/year on the bonuses alone.

That looks too far south to me, but is it a quieter area still near the action? The only reason we're considering MB over Hilton Head this year is to do more stuff (water park, etc.). So, it's not really going to be a 'relaxing' vacation.

Yeah, that's why we like it - it's quiet. The only issue is to get to anything...you sit in traffic. You definitely want to be centrally located for Broadway at the Beach, Myrtle Beach Waves, go kart track, etc. I also recommend going to a Myrtle Beach Pelicans game, even if your family isn't into baseball. Cheap fun, decent ballpark food.

We tend to say either in Cherry Grove or Litchfield - the bookends of the Grand Strand - just to keep out of the congestion. But that's not what you're looking for.

I'm trying to decide whether or not the Tigers Wild Encounter Tour is worth it at around $1200. It's probably a once in a lifetime thing, and my wife loves tigers (wanted to be a zoologist because of them, actually).

I've never been, but that place was in the news recently...and not in a good way: http://www.wmbfnews.com/2019/01/10/myrt ... c-animals/

I've heard good things about it, though.

I don't see anything wrong with that video, so I'm chalking it up to PETA being their normal NTP66 selves. It has all 5-star reviews on TripAdvisor, so I just went ahead and booked it. I'll just surprise my wife and daughter once we get down there.
