I still wish I had enough time to hit Moab when I was out there last year. Damn flu threw my plans off, and my three days of visiting got condensed into a Utah/Idaho/Wyoming roadtrip. My wife and I stayed in Utah for a week back in 2012. Visited Moab, and did Arches and Canyonlands. In the evening, we did this:

That was an incredible experience. Being way up on top of the sandstone cliffs looking down at the Colorado as it winds its way towards the Grand Canyon...just awesome. Biggest regret is that it was overcast so I could not see the night sky out there. Arches was fantastic but it gets really hot there...we did the Delicate Arch hike early in the AM and I was able to get my picture with the arch and no one else (yes, rockin the WBS shirt)

This is an impossibly subjective question, but Swig and Swine, Smoke, and Rodney Scott's are all excellent. Plenty of other good choices.Best BBQ in Charleston, SC? What you got?
I am definitely a Carolina BBQ guy, much more so than Texas. My favorite sauce I've had yet is the Carolina Mustard sauce.

Rodney Scott has a goddamn James Beard award.

Carolina-style BBQ is middle of the pack, IMO, right behind KC. I'd have Texas up next, with that Alabama white sauce nonsense being at the bottom of the list.

I have German blood, so I sort of default to the pork+mustard thing.

Rodney Scott's is the frontrunner from my research. I don't know what the James Beard award is, but I liked what I read about Scott

I'm in SC. We were OK. Lots of wind and 11" of rain, but never lost power during the storm. My college closed for over a week, my kids missed seven days of school.Isn't @DigitalGypsy66 in the NC area? Hope everything's okay...
Then two days after the storm passed by, low lying areas started flooding. We had a delayed start of noon last Tuesday, but they closed campus and sent everyone home at 2:15 because of flash flooding. It was something else...
Now, the water is all in Conway/Myrtle Beach/Pawley's Island. Schools are still closed there...not sure when they'll be able to open.
And Rodney Scott's BBQ is the best in Charleston. Try to get his original location in Hemingway, if you can.

Looking for suggestions for a family trip...mom, dad, 19 year old daughter and 16 year old son. Looking to go mid-February to April to somewhere warm but not swamped with spring breakers.
Open to domestic or Caribbean destinations.
Wife wants all inclusive, but I’m skeptical of quality.
Someone suggested Club Med Sandpiper Bay in FL. Anyone been?
Thanks

How fluent do I need to be?
Travel Thread
I wouldn't be too worried about it. From what I've read, since the US changed its polices and tourism there has increased there are increasing numbers of English speakers. Especially so around tourist areas (as with probably every international destination).
I'd pick up a phrase book and learn a few handy things. I learned 'hello', 'good morning', and 'thank you' in Vietnamese, and that was fine. Castellano is the official language there, but from what I gather it is highly highly colloquial. So you'd want to look for something specific to Cuba.

I’m not sure I’d even consider going to Cuba unless I knew somebody with firsthand experience visiting, personally.

How bad is Cancun. I know Mexico itself can be scary, but the resorts?

We looked into going to Cuba when the rules were relaxed. I just told Mrs Tif about the discussion, and she said "Did you tell them about the hoops?"
I forgot about the hoops.
You have to sort of apply to both governments for permission, file an itinerary with the US Dept of State, and get a 'tourist card'. And the big one is you can't use debit or credit cards issued by an American bank, so you have to take all the money you'll need in cash before you leave stateside.
I withdraw my recommendation.
