In Disney talk, that's code for "f*** you."
The phrase was revealed during an AMA on Reddit

"American AIrlines confirms some onboard service cuts."
https://thepointsguy.com/news/american- ... vice-cuts/
Are you serious? Onboard service CUTS?? There's barely any onboard service in coach as it is! They haven't been serving alcohol on short haul since early COVID because drunk passengers are too much of a risk. You get a non alcoholic beverage and pretzels.
And I'm sorry, I feel for FA's that they have to deal with the **** I have seen them deal with first hand but.... passengers only have masks off while eating. Now even that's too risky?
**** American. Just start charging me for carry ons because you are basically Spirit now.

Completely echo you last sentence. We flew Delta in September and American in December and the difference between the two was staggering. Everything about American paled in comparison. American is barely above a discount airline at this point. We, optimistically, have a couple trips this year and it looks like they’ll Al be American. United options are non-existent and Delta is extremely limited and significantly more expensive. Sucks.

**** American Airlines right in their **** ass. My hope is that Delta someday takes over PHL so I don't have to deal with them ever again.

I’m sure someone has explained this previously, but why would a round trip flight cost more for a direct flight than a flight that includes two extras into and out of that city?
Example: I’m looking for flights to San Diego… it’s cheaper for me to fly out of State College to Philly then to San Diego (of course on the way back it’d be SD to PHL to State college) than it would be for me to have the direct flight (same flight) from Philly to San Diego and back.

I honestly have no idea, but sometimes I think you just pay for the convenience of flying direct. You don't have to get off worry about losing your luggage or missing a connection...you just get on one plane and go where you need to go. I think it's just an upcharge for convenience.

Not sure, but probably has to do with whether or not your city is a hub city. Philly to SD is a more common flight than SC to SD.

Right… state college only goes to a handful of cities.
My question is more why is State College —> Philly—> SD and SD—>Philly—>State College less expensive than Philly—>SD and SD—> Philly? Especially puzzling considering the Philly —> SD portions are the same flights for both.

Is it the same flight from Philly to SD, regardless of where you start?

Yup… best analogy I can come up with is going to a bar and ordering a shot, but it’s cheaper to get that shot plus a pint of beer. Makes no sense to me.Is it the same flight from Philly to SD, regardless of where you start?

It is strange. I wonder if airlines reserve a certain number of seats for layover flights so if you want to fly direct, the supply/demand issue comes into play.

Go home, you're drunk. They overbook everything, all day, every day.Source of the post I wonder if airlines reserve a certain number of seats

You're overthinking this. They're charging you more because you're buying the more sought after product

What it costs them is irrelevant

And they know it works. I can save $500 by taking shitty flights for vacation, but having to extend air travel, stops, etc? **** that, it's a convenience I have to pay for.

@count2infinity, don't know if Southwest is an option for you, but they just dropped their prices big time today. Wife and I were planning her 40th bday trip to Miami area, and price went from $330 to $230.

Thanks hairpiece… I’ll take a look.
What would stop me from booking the layover flight and just showing up to Philly for the direct flight and skipping the first leg? Like, if I lived near a major airport, I’d start looking at connecting flights and layovers to get cheaper flights and then just show up for the last leg of the trip.

Pretty sure that you have to be on that first leg or the entire ticket is lost? Could be wrong there. Thanks hairpiece… I’ll take a look.

I'm 99% sure that I'm right, though - miss the first leg, the entire ticket is basically voided.
Travel Thread
yeah you could book say SC-Phil-Orlando and get out at Philly if you wanted. But you couldn't show up at Philly for the second leg of that

And if you cut the last leg off your trip, you have to watch out for airlines blacklisting you. That has been happening more frequently ever since that 'hacker fare' story from 3-4 years ago.
