We get along really well, so it's not a big deal. She was supposed to come out with us last year, so this is a make up trip. I'm sure she'll miss Kansas greatly...

If my MIL came on vacation with us you would need to double my already hefty booze budget.

As someone prone to anxiety issues, especially related to travel, flying for the first time in three years on the 20th anniversary of September 11th for a trip to Mexico in the midst of an ongoing global pandemic with a four month old in tow certainly checks some fun boxes.

Scott's Cheap Flights has been sending me crazy flight prices to Europe, like $350 round trip from Charlotte to Copenhagen. That's normally $900-1000. Trying to talk my wife into visiting her sister near there, but she's not wanting to fly overseas now. Can't blame her, but that's probably why the tickets are so cheap right now.

You aren’t kidding. I’m seeing flights to Rome for $311 RT.

In NYC for the US open. Basically half the restaurants are temporarily closed, and another portion have shorter hours or less working days. Retail has shortened hours, minimal people on the street compared to what I remember. It is so strange being here with stuff shut down when I expected things to be back up and running.

In Boston, things are basically thriving again, so this is a bit of a shock tbh.
Just got back from a 4 day “guys trip” in NYC. Took the train up from DC. Might have been this particular week but everything was packed. Could be due to the US Open, Fashion Week, Met Gala, etc overlapping and colleges all back in session.

Some of my friends that live in NYC said this past weekend was the most crowded they had seen the social scene since the pandemic started.

Just about every bar or restaurant we went to checked both our vax cards and our IDs at the door to make sure they matched up before letting us in. A few places didn’t.

Well there’s all that, then there was the 9/11 observations.

Has anyone traveled back to the US with an antigen test? The guidelines seem to suggest that is fine, but I wasn't sure. I'm a bit tight for testing time on a trip and antigen test would be much simpler.

Just got an antigen test done in the parking lot of my MIL’s apartment, so hopefully it’s enough. Based on the guidelines and the testing availability all over Mexico City I can’t see it not being enough.

My first trip since the week before lockdowns started is coming up. I half forget what all I need to take with me. Oh well, at least it’s a short trip.

Anyone ever been to Australia before? I'm thinking about finally planning that trip for 2023, but that's about as far as I've gotten. I have two bucket list items that I must cross off my list - diving the Great Barrier Reef, and cage diving with white sharks. I'm not even sure where in Australia I want to visit, or when (has to be between June and September).

I'm thinking that 2 weeks may not be enough. Shark diving is out of South Australia, with the GBR being NE Australia. I don't know if this would be a once in a lifetime trip, so I'd like to hit Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Cairns. Maybe two days in Adelaide for the white shark diving.

I also just realized that the months I can go is winter there, so it might actually be cold. That throws a wrench into things.

Today @NTP66 learned that the seasons in the southern hemisphere are opposite of the north.
