When you get back from Disney, you might want to look into a good pair of orthotic inserts for your shoes. Because of the amount of walking you'll do at Disney, you'll want to get used to them first. At Magic Kingdom a couple of years ago, I walked 25000 steps or almost 10 miles.

Going to the finger lakes (Seneca Lake) tomorrow. Any suggestions? We're going to Watkin's Glen state park and staying in Geneva.

Someone here recommended the Asics Gel Nimbus when I had plantar fasciitis. Worked great, on my second pair and have not had a problem since.

I'm in Richards Bay, South Africa for work atm. I wouldn't build a summer home here, but the trees are actually quite lovely.
Get to fly to Port Elizabeth tomorrow. Perhaps I'll get some downtime there and be able to report on the quality of South African beach towns.
Related South Africa travel tip: get to know some locals and go to a braii. Good times.

Related travel tips: eat some biltong, and try a klipdrift and coke. If you're a red wine drinker, try some Pinotage. Really miss parts of SA cuisine now, I need to return.Related South Africa travel tip: get to know some locals and go to a braii. Good times.

I had some biltong jerky, but it was too dry. I'll keep my eyes open for the wine though.

thanks for the heads up. I ordered this with my room service last night, and ended up getting the entire bottle. I only asked for a glass, but the best part is they didn't even charge me for it.Pinotage.

If you go to a butcher, you can get it cut fresh and specify how dry or wet of a piece you want cut. That's the only way to do it IMHO. The packaged stuff is meh, but the freshly cut stuff the butcher shops sell is worth seeking and trying out.I had some biltong jerky, but it was too dry. I'll keep my eyes open for the wine though.
Glad you enjoyed the wine tho.

SA seems like a place that I have no overt desire to visit, but if I ever found myself there I'd absolutely love it.

That's pretty much how I felt prior to moving there. After moving back, i did find myself missing a lot of things. It's like anywhere, some awesome things, some sh***y things and a lot of neutral things.SA seems like a place that I have no overt desire to visit, but if I ever found myself there I'd absolutely love it.

how long did it take you to get there? I've heard that's one of the longest flights you can take from North America.

My in-laws went there for an anniversary trip (their favorite vacay ever) about five or six years ago. Total flight time from Las Vegas was over 20 hours. That does not include down time on layovers, that's just actual butt-in-seat, plane-in-air time.

Sounds about right, 18 hours from Atlanta of butt in seat time. It's a looong flight but would do it again to return and gorge myself on culinary delights for cheap. My in-laws went there for an anniversary trip (their favorite vacay ever) about five or six years ago. My travel itinerary has looked like this since I left for South Africa:
Monday: Flight from Pgh to Atl 2 hrs
Flight from Atl to Jo'burg 15 hrs
Arrive Tuesday night local time
Thursday: drive from Jo'burg to Ermelo 2 hrs. Realize the freight train we were going to catch won't be there.
Drive to Richard's Bay: 5 more hours
Work until 3:30 am
Friday: drive 2 hours to catch a freight train, then ride said train for 3 hours.
Attend braai until 2:30 am
Saturday: drive 7 hours from Richard's Bay to Jo'burg
Sunday: fly 1.5 hours from Jo'burg to Port Elizabeth
Monday: drive 2.5 hours to catch a freight train. Ride said freight train for 2.5 hours. Wait in desolate area for 1 hour since train operator's shift was over and just left said train in desolate town for a day until next set of train drivers arrives. Drive 1 hour back to depot
Watch Man U vs Liverpool play to a 0-0 draw while eating Indian-south African food.
Today: more driving to catch a freight train, more riding freight train, then 1.5 hour flight back to Jo'burg
Tomorrow: fly from Jo'burg to Atl, super long layover, then arrive in Pgh around 10:30 am. Drive home in complete oblivion for 1hr.
Sleep for a week.

my SO is leaving on Thursday for a family trip to Thailand (where her parents are from) and layovers included will spend about 24 hours traveling. fortunately for her we live in ATL. her parents have to go BOS=>DTW=>NRT=>BKK=>CNX
in 21 years I've never been with her but I imagine one day we will go to Thailand together.

Disney was incredible. Truly a special vacation I will never forget. I can't believe the detail and efficiency that goes into this place. We had 5 days in the park and I could have used another 2 to really see everything else we wanted to do. The kids got into Jedi Training and that was so much fun to watch. I got picked out of the audience to be in the Indy Jones Stunt show, so that was awesome (until the show broke down and had to be canceled). Tower of Terror, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, & Splash Mountain were probably my favorite rides. Fantasmic was incredible. I could retire and work in Hollywood Studios, loved that park.

@eddysnake, if you don't mind me asking, which resort/hotel did you stay at, and did you like it? I'm getting ready to plan our trip to Disney next October, and there are a million resorts to choose from.
