Id like to go, but 14 hour flight just doesn't attract me
Of all of the potential barriers (like the cost, language barriers, etc.), that's what you're going to let stand between you and the best sushi of your life? Boredom and a sore butt? :P

Just get hammered before you get on the place and pass out once seated. You'll sleep through most of it.

Da fuq

Yeah in **** Beverly hills or at Tetsu
lol that's like one meal for one person at a decent place.
I'm not above utility sushi, but neither would I actually call it sushi.

Sushi.

I spend probably ATLEAST 100$ a month in sushi. It'd be cheaper for me to have a heroin addiction
Have you been to Japan? If not, you need to go to Japan. Consider it akin to a Muslim going on the Hajj.
my brother-in-law just did a japan/korea trip and they tried chicken sashimi. that is an off-putting concept to me, even though i understand the difference in japanese/american chicken.

the picture he sent me looked a lot like this:

no thanks.

other than that, i am a huge sushi fan. we do margaret kuo's in media, pa from time to time when we want to splurge on sushi.

this place is pretty dynamite for being a hole in the wall...and its 5 minutes from my house

Lebanese food...

I grew up on a small family farm in the middle of nowhere. We never went out to eat so essentially, growing up my diet was

Meat: Chicken, Pork, Beef. Typically underseasoned and way overcooked just to be safe.
Starch: Potato (baked or mashed) or rice (instant white rice only)
Vegetable: Typically boiled beyond the point of mushiness

So I had zero idea that there was food out there beyond just that. When I left the farm and started sampling other cuisine I have fallen in love with Lebanese food. Thankfully there's an awesome Lebanese place here in State College.

100 a month in sushi? How often is that? Are you averaging out 3 meals over 2 months?

funny that i grew up with a lot of lebanese/turkish/greek/medi food and, in my 20s, fell in love with english/irish food just as you described..the shepherd's pie was an unknown to me until i was in college and i still cant get enough out of properly prepared english/irish/hunky pub/comfort food.

I'll just randomly call ahead and get rolls for pickup, I usually do this at least twice a week.... rolls are like 12-15 bucks, sometimes I order two

so like 100-200 yeah

Just asked people here in the office about this place and they say it's great. And yes, those prices are fantastic. What's up with their hours though? M-F until 6pm?

That looks delicious. As malkintent alludes to, they apparently care a lot more about food safety in Japan than they do here, and chicken and eggs in Japan are vastly less likely to be contaminated with anything that would hurt you. So you can eat less-than-completely-cooked eggs and chicken without having to worry that you just signed your own death sentence. Raw and soft eggs are a common topping for a lot of stuff, and a common breakfast food in Japan is tamago kake gohan, which is simply a raw egg cracked over rice and stirred. I didn't have anything as raw as the chicken in that photo, but I did eat yakitori that was cooked to a level that I wouldn't have eaten if I were in the U.S. It was great. I miss the ready availability of good yakitori almost as much as I miss Japanese convenience stores.

After some research it appears that a certain breed of chicken (blue foot chicken?) is less toxic than other chickens.

I saw it at Giant Eagle and had to restrain myself from tossing one in the cart. Love it, but that's so many calories with no upside.

I don't get the Crystal Pepsi fascination. Am I too young or something?
