Rather appropriate given the recent news. Apparently, no one in that athletic department thinks much.

Love college hoops szn

I don't think there's a huge favorite like Duke last year so it should be interesting to see if anyone separates from the top few teams. Curious to see what strides Pitt has made. And thank God for hoops season coming to Akron after this football season.

The ACC is a bunch of jagoffs for scheduling conference games to open the season

I for one am excited to watch Pitt-FSU tomorrow instead of checking the box score Thursday morning to see how bad they beat Arkansas Pine-Bluff in an alternate universe of no early ACC games

They did that because they went to 20 conference games this season and decided to play them now rather than trying to maneuver the non-con/holiday tourney landscape in December.

St. Mary’s favored in a neutral site game vs Wisconsin
Very nice summary, thanks.

St. Mary's got bet up from a 2.5 to a 5 point favorite. I'd be tempted to take Wisconsin in this one.

St. Mary's does have a ton back from last year's team that whacked Gonzaga in the WCC and Wisky was a lot of Ethan Happ and not much else last year. Ethan Happ isn't there anymore. I'm only playing Sparty tonite against Kentucky (-3) but will be paying attention to some in-game situations for potential other things. It's just too difficult on the first nite of the season to try to navigate point spreads.

Nicholls State goes to Champaign on Tuesday night and takes the Illini to OT before leaving and then comes into the Pete and shocks Pitt. Look out, Southland Conference!!

I watched the last 7 minutes and Kentucky was god-awful on the offensive end. Numerous chances to pull even and take the lead and they couldn't do it. Evansville was a 26 1/2 point dog and picked 8th in the MVC. They're coached by former Kentucky player Walter McCarty (TIL).

My grandmother is dancing in her grave. Born and raised in Evansville (although she was an Indiana/Bobby Knight fan).

It jives with past discretions of a similar dollar amount. Messy situation and the NCAA sucks but those are the rules on the books.

I have been loving this series on Reddit. Fun to look at.

On another note, @Orlando Penguin , what is the scuttlebutt on Penn State hoops this year? They seem to be thrashing opponents they've struggled with in the past, but not sure if that is anything to be optimistic about.

Not a PSU hoops fan per se but one thing they have going for them is experience with Stevens and Watkins as their two main scorers. It seems Chambers wants to amp up the tempo and get into some track meets. Watched a little against Bucknell Monday nite and go go go was the theme of the night. Next 7 games will be a very good barometer to where we can expect them to be this season. But I think there’s reason to be encouraged.

Was probably saying he likes getting lei’d since he’s in Hawaii. I think it’s a little of both. It adds plenty of levity to a game. I used to dislike him but the back and forth he has with Dave Pasch and Jason Beneti is often funny. He did a White Sox game with Beneti back in August and I found myself laughing a number of times.
