The dodgers would probably want to move Pederson in a deal for Marte.

I hope the pirates don't get Pederson in return. Pederson was paid $5 million last year and is in arbitration and will probably get another raise and is not as good of a value as Marte at $12 or $13 million.
I mean I guess if the pirates got a prized prospect for Marte along with Pederson I would be OK with it. But on principal I don't like the idea of Pederson as a pirate.

Marte isn't going to get a prized prospect in return.
Probably better off getting a ML ready guy with some upside that can be flipped again in the future.
I don't hate the idea of pederson, but I fear he would suck so much in Pittsburgh so there is more risk to that sort of acquisition than would seem on paper.

Why would we rather have Pederson over Marte if that's all the trade is?

It would be Pederson plus some sort of prospect return.
If they trade Marte that will leave a giant hole in CF for 2020.

I wouldn't hate the trade. Joc puts up a consistent 3 WAR while Marte can put up a 4-5 WAR, but his best years are most likely behind him. Joc is cheaper, younger, plus you get a prospect. He'll become a FA next year but it doesn't look like he'll get more than $10m/yr if the Pirates feel they want to keep him longer

I remember growing up and hearing Carnegie Mellon referred to as "Carnegie Asian". So not surprised he married a student from there

Oh stop, I wasn't saying it was right. I just remember hearing about CMU's very high Asian-American student population going back to high school and looking at colleges. It wasn't looked at as a negative.Altoona proud

Asian-American probably isn't very accurate either. A good percentage of students are foreigners.

Dave Parker was one of my favorites as a kid but his pushing himself to get in the HOF has been unseemly. I see he didn't get in.

What a steal.Noesi, 33 by Opening Day, saw his first major league action since 2015 this season with the Marlins. He appeared in 12 games, starting 4, recording a 8.46 ERA/6.39 FIP over that span. The right-hander doesn’t figure to be a primary player for the Pirates, though he certainly brings a fair amount of experience having appeared in the show with the Marlins, White Sox, Rangers, Mariners, and Yankees since his debut in 2011. He performed below replacement level in four of his six major league seasons, with the high water mark coming in 2014 when he made 27 starts for the White Sox. He made very brief appearance with the Rangers and Mariners that year, but it was in Chicago where he spent the brunt of his time, registering a 4.39 ERA/4.85 FIP across 166 innings on the south side.

Sounds like Cherington was impressed with the current analytics department that the Pirates have. I think Hurdle and Searage became major liabilities last year, due in part to a false sense of security created by the decent 2018 campaign (https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx? ... &players=0) from the pitching staff. I think Searage and Hurdle were unable to adapt after the fastball academy/pitch to contact method became untenable.
Off the bat, I think Williams and Archer will be more effective going forward, but that obviously doesn't do anything to alleviate the loss of Taillon and Vazquez for 2020. Losing those two effectively closed any potential Taillon/Bell window, which in turn makes this offseason sell off necessary.
