I used to really like Brownie and was super pumped for him when the Pirates finally made the playoffs, but he's become such a stooge for management and ownership that I just can't take him anymore. His baffling contention on Dickless and Mulzy last year that the Pirates **** ass roster was as good as the Yankees or Dodgers or whoever and they just had bad luck was the last straw for me.
Yeah, he is the Baghdad Bob meme in action.

Look forward to sub-70 win season and it's blamed on the fans not showing up.

Really surprised Banister hasn't been named already. Are they really doing their due diligence? Or are more moves coming that would preclude hiring a new manager?

I have no faith in anything the Pirates are doing, have done. It doesn't matter who they hire if the same developmental team/scouting team is in place.

I wasn't going to be happy unless they totally cleaned house, they haven't done that yet, so it's already just making me feel negative about anything Pirates related lol.

When is the last time Pirates, Steelers and Pens all finished below .500 in the same season? Going to be a lot of bridges on alert.

Going off the top of my head, 2000? Can't really remember when the Penguins started sucking.

Edit: 2003 is the answer, which happens to be the last time the Steelers were under .500

2003.

Pirates obviously, the Tommy Maddox Steelers and the second year of the Penguins hibernation.

Feliz, Gonzlaez and Diaz are non-tender candidates. Kuhl should be as well, maybe a non-tender then resign.

Yanks got an all-star could be super star SS for 2 months of a closer.

We get spare parts for 2 full years of one of the best pitchers in baseball.

I despised the Cole trade but shamefully was in favor of the trade for Archer. Always liked him as a pitcher and thought he could have a return to form here.

Can't blame you Dickie. If the Pirates had a competent staff that taught more than just pitch to contact, he may have turned out well. You know that if the Pirates traded him tomorrow, he'd have an All-Star year next year.

I was thrilled to land Archer at the time. What a disaster

A competent staff would have seen what was going on with Morton in 2017 and Cole in 2018 and realized something with their pitching approach was off. Unfortunately, Searage and Hurdle saw success in 2018 with the staff (https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx? ... =&enddate=).

So they changed nothing, of course, and we see what happened.

also for some context, Polanco hit 303 with an ops of 1.000 in the two months prior to that trade. Dickerson was hitting 318 for the entire year.

I don't think there was any issue in trading for Archer, the dumb thing was including Glasnow in that deal. They could have just been a smart team and dealt Keller along with some lower prospect(s), but instead they dealt two extremely valuable pieces in Meadows and Glasnow that their ML coaching staff was criminally misusing.

The comments are great, but WTF is that Tweet? Basically admitting the organization fcked up terribly and having a good laugh about it?

Nah, just they were tired of their notifications blowing up all day about the ALDS matchup. Even Dick Vitale has been chirping them about it.

Third year in a row.

Some other publication (BA?) had Craig, Hayes, and Tucker win defensive awards in 2018. They went a long way in making Altoona pitchers seem better than they actually are.
