SS - what a heaping pile of sht
SS was such a tough call between Cedeno, who was both a jagoff and a bad baseball player, and Barmes, who was a good human but a bad baseball player. I think Barmes ultimately got the nod because he got the Hurldle veteran treatment. Imo there is a strong correlation between the hurdle veteran treatment and a spot on this list

1B was easily the deepest pool of candidates.

If Mike Trout is the no brainer consensus member of the MLB all decade team, that means that Sean Rodriguez is the Mike trout of this team. It comes down to him and Tino as my two least favorite pittsburgh athletes of the decade.

Barmes pissed me off more than anyone at SS because Hurdle kept trotting him out there day after day regardless of his ability to make contact better than a pitcher. But Cedenos penchant for just not giving a sht really made me dislike him more. I remember once he claimed he lost a ground ball in the sun when he didn't go for a ball.. grow up.

Resop needs some mention here just for his grabbing his balls after every HR he let up bit. Though he wasn't that bad. Damn it Pirates, this shouldn't be so easy

Btw - Tino is the easy Pitt choice to hate, but I go with Overbay on the Buccos. This is all personal preference of course so there are no real arguments to be had but man I could not stand him.

I wanted Lambo to be a thing for so long. What a disappointment.

It would be interesting to compare the all garbage teams from the 2010s, 2000s and the 1990s.

I fear the prior decades would destroy this team.

The big difference between the 2000s and the 2010s is that there was nothing at stake in the 2000s. If some shtbird got 400 at bats a year and was a waste of space in 2005, it didnt matter becuase the team was awful.

But the thought of giving rod barajas 104 games behind the plate, Barmes 140 games at short, and Casey McGhee 92 games at first base during the same season that Pedro hit 30 home runs and cutch went (ugh) 300/400/557 makes me want to puke.

Overall, great list. Love the choice of neil walker. Never could stand how much of a wimp he was/is. No showed all 3 playoffs too.

Here are my dishonorable mentions:

Cervelli - overrated, huge complainer, wimp like walker.

Tony Sanchez - sucked, thought he was so good that he created an alias for himself and tried to be a twitter hero, and also sucked.

Dusty Brown - "caught" 12 innings for the pirates and had 37 passed balls

Aki Iwamura

Andy LaRoche - warning track power and named laroche.

Brandon Wood - this guy batted like .900 with me watching and had maybe 2 other career hits. He owes me all of his earnings.

Jaff Decker, Geoff Hartlieb - both suck at baseball, both spell Jeff like dadholes

Matt Diaz - ordinarily you like your righty platoon guy to outperform what the other guy would do left on left.

Alex Presley - Eats plain yogurt and drinks unflavored white claws. Nearly nodded off thinking about him.

Antonio Bastardo - had an oddly enormous ass but could only throw 81mph

Jeff Karstens - spelled his name correctly, but looked like a ventriloquists dummy. And stunk.

Paul Maholm - synonymous with losing. Became a verb coined by Rocco.

And my all time most hated all time Pirate of all time: Chad Qualls. I will never, ever forget in 2012 right in the heat of their epic collapse when he cut off a Marte throw to the plate that would have nailed not one but TWO runners.

PS. Is cherington aware free agency started?

Cole, Bell, Dickerson, Brewer, Glasnow, Holmes, Skoglund and Turner all made the show. Latter 2 didn't sign with the Pirates and went back in the draft

I see 3 names that I recognize... I guess because they took the no-brainer at #1 and he's currently one of (the?) best pitchers in baseball it counts?

3 all stars in one draft doesn't usually happen regardless of the #1 pick or not

I guess I'm not familiar enough with the MLB draft to know that. Seems like that'd be a draft of the decade for a single team, not necessarily the whole league.

That is the kind of draft that would propel most teams to world series contention. But of course most teams wouldn't have destroyed the value of Gerrit Cole and Tyler Glasnow the way Hurdle and Searage did.
