Pouncey's suspension is about making sure he is not on the field for the rematch in two weeks more than it is for punishing any of his actual conduct.
You can't kick people in the head regardless of the preceding events. Not suspending him for that leads to a bad precedent. NFL shouldn't really have had to think too hard about it.

I don't think Pouncey should have been suspended. That's rooted in the opinion that what Garret did was so out of the box that punishing a futile retaliation intent is crap. I mean, Pouncey was what, kicking at the guy's helmet? If Garret was sans helmet there, then I would have zero issue, because then you are punishing damage and intent. But to just punish intent after what Garrett did is weaksauce.
