Two clear-cut first rounders - Tua and Herbert. Beyond that, Fromm maybe, and some late first to mid second rounders.

I don't remember it, but apparently the Steelers had Fitzpatrick pretty high on their draft board last year.

They took Edmunds in the 1st in '18, which means they now have two of the three safeties drafted in the 1st round from that year.

So are realistic options are to land in the top 5 of next year's draft and take a chance on a QB who may or may not pan out, or take a chance on a bonafide elite 22-year old safety who is signed through 2021? I think we made the right choice.

not even considering the variable that maybe Mason Rudolph does well and A) we don't have a top 10 pick and B) don't need a QB

Tank mode is what the Dolphins did. Win now and in the future mode is what the Steelers did.

The thing is, take away Ben and they're a pretty young team. If Rudolph pans out, they should still be good for years to come.

To me this is a "show me what you got Tomlin/Butler" type of move. You've been given the players, now make a case for your job.

I have no insight to anything Bucs-related, but is this really the same? Your argument is that there’s a better QB available for us to draft next year. I don’t think the Steelers will be so bad as to have a shot at the top 1-2 QBs, and even then, I don’t know that they’d be that much better than what we’ve currently got on the roster. Rudolph may be a bust, or he could be pretty solid.

But we all dodint about the secondary every year, and when we finally go out and pay up for the talent, it’s now an issue. I don’t get that.

Also, fire Keith Butler.

I think Rudolph has just as much of a chance being a bust than anyone you draft next year, honestly. See how the guy pans out, have Ben give it a go next year if Mason doesn't, and open up the draft again for the year after.

The Steelers picked 10th this year, which was their highest 1st round position since they drafted Ben. They had only been below the 20th selection three or four other times since then. (That is a good problem to have, as it means the team has generally fielded a competitive squad every year for 15 consecutive seasons.) There are not reliable QB prospects there that you can justify not giving the new guy a look if it means also shoring up what has been a glaring hole in the defense since, at NTP noted, Troy **** Polamalu.

Probably. I can never remember if it’s Ramsey or Randolph so I also include in the first name and let the end user decide based on context clues

Pffft...nfl history is littered with teams that begin their successful rebuild process with a non-elite defensive back.
