As much as I loathe Tomlin, Butler's continued employment is a tenfold worse offense IMO.

As much as I loathe Tomlin, Butler's continued employment is a tenfold worse offense IMO.

Early in Tomlin's coaching career he spent two seasons at Arkansas State. In 1997 his was their WR coach while Fichtner was their offensive coordinator. In 98 he was moved to DB coach under newly hired defensive coordinator Keith Butler. Tomlin was also a grad assistant at Memphis in 96 when Butler was close to the end of his tenure as their LB, DE, and ST coach. These two buffoons gave Tomlin his first paying jobs as a football coach and I don't see him making a change with either unless the entire house is getting cleaned.

Whisenhunt and Tomlin were never employed by the Steelers at the same time. KW left for ARI before Tomlin was hired.

my memory is foggy but I think whisenhunt was a frontrunner for the job when tomlin was hired

Urban myth. KW went to ARI, then a week or so later Tomlin was hired, and KW poached another guy whose name escapes me after he was passed over for Tomlin.

Just consulted the Google Box: Whisenhunt accepted the ARI job on Jan 14 '07. That Grimm guy had a second interview later that week, and Tomlin accepted the HC job on Jan 21.

Also, I did not recall Riverboat Ron being a finalist for the gig.
