That's awesome Freddy. I've been obsessed with ancient history lately. Currently listening to Dan Carlin's King of Kings podcast (about the Persian Empire)... So damn good. It's incredible just how much we have been able to glean about such a distant time.

It's also crazy how much of that history the Greek historian Heroditus recorded. Even if he did exaggerate in spots

I went to law school in Minnesota and have never heard of 'spark of life' doctrine as it's used in the Chauvin trial. They were allowed to bring in character evidence about Floyd. The AP article below says it may have backfired on them.

Just thought it was amusing the prosecutor is using a similar tactic that message board posters do; lets look at the victim and whether or not they might've deserved it.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A popular Union County teacher and coach was killed in a shootout last week with a Mexican drug cartel, according to the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office.

Barney Harris was the basketball coach at Union Academy in Monroe where he was well-loved and respected, but Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson said there was another side to Harris that most people didn’t see -- one that was involved in the dangerous and deadly drug world.

Channel 9 learned Harris and his associate Steven Alexander Stewart went to a mobile home park in Alamance County last Thursday to steal money and drugs from cartel members.

According to Johnson, Harris and Stewart shot and killed an 18-year-old member of the cartel and then got into a shootout with other members of the cartel.

Harris was killed in the gunfire.

“Mr. Harris, he had a bulletproof vest on, but it did not work with the kind of ammunition that was used,” Johnson said. “He had gloves on, and he, they went there to do what was done except they did not think it was going to backfire on them.”

This guy coached at a charter school in the county I work and live. He was killed last week, and the initial story was that he was shot in an attempted robbery while he was helping a friend move. There was a story earlier in the week about what a great guy he was. Then this came out today. Crazy. There's also a gofundme for his family that's already raised $20000. Guessing some people will want the money back.

A friend of mine from HS posts - not quite incessantly but often- on FB about Union Academy. All his kids went there.

Oddly he didn’t mention that the basketball coach was killed in a shootout by a drug cartel..

On March 22, Haileyesus was found unconscious after choking himself over what’s known as the “Blackout Challenge.” He spent 19 days on life support before passing away.
