Yeah I meant on the skyline. If they could find a way to make the cables subtle (i.e. not show up on photos of the skyline) I'm sold.

Funny how the non-residents love the skyline, but not dodint, a current Pittsburgh resident.

We all miss it; dodint lives it. Every. Damn. Day.

I think what burned me out on it is that every 2-3 days or so some **** face on r/pittsburgh thinks they're the first person to take and post a picture from Mt. Washington or from the Fort Pitt tunnel.

I enter/exit the city by passing through either the Strip, or the Heinz apartments where Pryor got stabbed, so I could be jaded. ;)

Oh, I agree with the first part of this post for sure. I dunno...I get out there once a year on average and I get just a warm feeling when I see that skyline.

Turnpike: Toll hike, 45% non-EZ pass surcharge coming
HARRISBURG (AP) — Pennsylvania Turnpike officials have announced yet another toll increase — 6% beginning early next year — as well as a new 45% surcharge for non-EZ-Pass users whose tolls are assessed by mail based on their license plates. Officials said the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission on Tuesday approved a 6% increase for EZ-Pass users as well those without passes in the “Toll by Plate” program. But they also approved an average 45% increase over the 2020 cash rate “to reflect the costs of collections for this tolling method.” The new rates are to take effect Jan. 3.

I once tried to take Rt 30 from Somerset to NJ. I made it to Lancaster before giving up. I'll happily pay whatever the turnpike asks.

Seems excessive to me. They are not paying all those employees anymore to take your ticket.

What are they having them do, read every photo manually and look up the license plates in a database somewhere? And by database I mean some hardcopy binder where the 3 hole punches are ripping through the rings.

A computer does all of that work. Without looking at the article, I assume the increase is simply for infrastructure, because PennDOT is forever in repaving mode.

I'm kind of okay with it. People holding out against EZ Pass are just retarding progress at this point and I'm fine with making them pay a Stupid Tax.

The caveat being that entry into EZ Pass is kind of steep, it used to be that you had to put up like $70 to initially fund the account. But looking at it now that is reduced to $35 initial deposit to get an EZ Pass, so yeah, tax those people who act as boat anchors on the cruise of life.

One year when we drove to Altoona, I convinced my wife it would be fun to take 30. By the time I got to Chambersburg I was pulling my hair out.

I like taking 30 from Latrobe to Breezewood. But yeah, that's probably the best part.

Yup...that's actually a really nice, beautiful drive. Not so much once you get further east. There are still some really nice spots but just too many damn cities with congestion and tractor trailers.

That is a nice stretch. I always take 30 until I get to Breezewood when heading east. Then it's the turnpike all the way.

I haven't been on the turnpike since I was 17.

To go from Cranberry to I-95 is $53.10 or $38 with EzPass.

W.T.F.

Long-time friends Joe Feeney and Tom Cook made a pact in 1992 - sealed with a handshake - that if one of them won the US Powerball lottery they would share it.

Nearly 30 years later the numbers came up for Tom - and he honoured the deal.

Joe said he was stunned when his friend called to say they were sharing the $22m (£17m) jackpot.

"He called me and I said, 'are you jerking my bobber?'" said the keen fisherman.

The two men live in the Menomonie area of the US state of Wisconsin.
That’s awesome.

Stolen teddy bear with dying mother's voice returned to daughter after actor Ryan Reynolds and others offered a $15,000 reward

A Vancouver woman has been reunited with a teddy bear that has special significance for her.

Mara Soriano's mother, Marilyn Soriano, 53, died on June 29, 2019, after battling cancer. Mara Soriano said her mom gifted her the bear, which includes a voice-recorded message, shortly before her passing.

During a hectic move last week, the bear was stolen from outside the U-Haul that Soriano and her fiance rented to transport their belongings. It was packed in a bag with other valuables.

On Saturday, after CNN's news partner CBC reported a story about the missing bear, the search for Soriano's bear spread quickly across social media and caught the attention of actor Ryan Reynolds.

Reynolds offered a reward of $5,000 for the return of the bear. Other celebrities including Dan Levy and Zach Braff tweeted their sentiments in hopes of reuniting Soriano with the bear.

After Reynolds' offer, Soriano told CNN Thursday that Canadian TV and radio personality George Stroumboulopoulos and Kraft Peanut Butter each pitched in $5,000, making the total reward offer $15,000.
