So the guy posts it on social media, knowing it will gain traction, and is now probably going to try and score a quick settlement from Starbucks. All because a barista probably just misspelled his name. God Bless America.

That was the main guess at the culprit early on. I still want to know how only the crew survived.

Sleeping quarters were on the bottom. The batteries were in the galley on the middle deck, the crew was topside. By the time they knew of the fire it had already engulfed the ladderwell and the people below were unaware of the escape hatch on the other end.

That's my understanding.

I think the authorities are closer to formalizing that cause, because as of this week local commercial pleasure craft operators are reporting that USCG safety inspectors are starting to be much more critical of mobile device charging arrangements aboard ship. They are basically impounding (or at least refusing to certify) ships for faults that were not considered problematic before Labor Day.
