Was this the big explosion in Russia that was going around social media late last week? Or a separate incident?

Russia Orders Evacuation of Village Near Site of Nuclear Accident

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/13/worl ... ident.html
The Russian authorities on Tuesday announced the evacuation of the village nearest to the site of a nuclear accident in northern Russia, suggesting dangers more grave than initially reported.

...

Officials have insisted radiation levels are not elevated and that the displacement of the population of the village, home to about 450 people, should not be called an evacuation, a word redolent of disaster.

“There is no evacuation,” the governor of the Arkhangelsk region, Igor Orlov, told the Interfax news agency Tuesday. “That is complete nonsense.”

Residents of Nenoksa, the village closest to the incident, were told to leave on a special train that would be sent to their community, TV29, a local news outlet, reported on Tuesday. It attributed the move to events at the nearby base from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, but did not elaborate on those events or explain the time frame.

...

A regional news site, Northern News, reported that doctors at a civilian hospital in Arkhangelsk, the largest city in the region, who first treated victims of the accident, had not been informed of radiation danger.

After treating the patients, the doctors at the Arkhangelsk Regional Clinical Hospital found that their scrubs were causing radiation meters to click, the site reported.

The patients were taken to Moscow and the rooms where they had lain were sealed. Then, the report said, the doctors were also transferred to the capital for medical evaluations.
Hmm…
The ambulances that carried the dead and wounded away from the site actually had plastic taped over the seams of the rear bay doors, as if to prevent contaminated air from leaking out.

I'm sure this is fine.

Why does Russia keep doing stuff like this when the world is more advanced than it's ever been and pretty much knows about things semi-instantly. Russia is trash.

Because nobody is ever going to hold them accountable? Hell, look at us. We're merrily complicit.

Well, that's an easy one, Trump is Putin's lapdog so of course, we're complicit. The only thing Trump did was a Trump tweet where he had to stroke his own military ego:
The United States is learning much from the failed missile explosion in Russia. We have similar, though more advanced, technology. The Russian “Skyfall” explosion has people worried about the air around the facility, and far beyond. Not good!

The US abandoned the program in the 1960s. If we have 'more advanced' tech, he's spilling beans that maybe shouldn't be spilled.

The thought of Russia putting up a nuclear-powered cruise missile that can orbit in the sky 150k feet up in international airspace and just loiter for 20 years before getting tasked is sort of terrifying.

Bond market swings are signaling another recession is on the way:
The U.S. government bond market sounded alarms Wednesday as investors fleeing riskier assets drove the 30-year bond’s yield to a record low and the 10-year yield fell below the rate on the two-year for the first time since 2007.

The 10-year Treasury yield dipped as much as 1.9 basis points below the two-year yield in what’s considered a harbinger of a U.S. economic recession beginning in the next 18 months. That expectation, nurtured in recent weeks by worsening U.S.-China trade relations and signs global growth is slowing, was bolstered Wednesday by weak Chinese and German economic data.

I've seen a ton of articles the last few days saying the same. Hope they're wrong.

6 cops down (shot, none confirmed dead) in North Philly. Shooting apparently still active, bullet ricocheted near a news crew as well.

ETA:
Narcotics got ambushed serving a search warrant. Being shot at from floor below (1, possibly 2 shooters), and requesting radio silence so he can avoid getting killed. DA has arrived at Temple Hospital, and to nobody's surprise was apparently told to F#@% off.

Update: I’m on the scene now. 6th Officer has been injured. News crews are working together and moving our choppers from the scene as to not give the shooter(s) an opportunity to know where tactical units are positioned. Frequent gunshots continue. @CBSPhilly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Four women escorted from the scene where six Philadelphia police officers were shot say police saved them after they were trapped inside a Nicetown-Tioga home where the suspected gunman was barricaded inside. The women say they were on the second floor at the time of the shootout.

“I thank God for these cops. They’re good people. Don’t say nothing bad about them, they kept us safe the whole time,” one of the women told CBS3.
