Police say two people have been charged after officers found boxes full of dozens of dead cats stacked outside a Clearfield County apartment.
According to the Lawrence Township Police Department, Ana Houston and Thomas Rowles have been charged with 36 felony accounts of aggravated cruelty to animals, 36 misdemeanor counts of neglect of animals, and 62 misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.
Officers say they were called Friday to an apartment at 1303 Powell Ave. in Hyde to help the SPCA with contacting Houston and Rowles about an issue with cats in the home.
When police arrived, they say they found seven boxes containing 36 dead cats stacked outside the front door of the apartment.
Police say they spoke to Houston and Rowles and learned there were another 26 cats living inside the apartment.
They say neither of the individuals tried contacting a veterinarian to treat the cats, and the Animal Matters of Clearfield County had previously removed 28 cats from the apartment.
The SPCA took custody of the 26 cats found living in the apartment Friday, police say.
