More than 41,000 people have signed petitions calling to stop Jeff Bezos from returning to Earth after he blasts into space next month.

Bezos, founder of space-exploration firm Blue Origin, said on June 7 that he and his brother Mark Bezos will fly into space aboard the New Shepard rocket on July 20 - the company's first human flight.

Three days after Bezos' announcement, two petitions were launched to try and prevent the billionaire's re-entry to Earth. They have both garnered thousands of followers in just 10 days.

More than 23,000 people have signed one Change.org petition titled: "Do not allow Jeff Bezos to return to Earth."

"Billionaire's should not exist...on earth, or in space, but should they decide the latter they should stay there," the petition's description said.

Some signatories gave a reason for signing the petition, which included comments such as "being let back into Earth is a privilege - not a right," and "Earth don't want people like Jeff, Bill [Gates], Elon [Musk] and other such billionaires."

Another petition, called "Petition To Not Allow Jeff Bezos Re-Entry To Earth," has accumulated more than 18,000 signatures and is quickly increasing.

Jose Ortiz, who set up the petition, said in the description that Bezos is "an evil overlord hellbent on global domination."

"The fate of humanity is in your hands," Ortiz also wrote.

Both petitions are aiming to get 25,000 signatures, making them two of the top signed petitions on Change.org, according to the website.

Bezos will take an 11-minute flight to the edge of space alongside his brother and the winner of the Blue Origin auction for a seat in the New Shepard spacecraft, which sold for $28 million. They'll be strapped into a dome-shaped capsule, which sits on top of the rocket booster.

Once New Shepard reaches the Kármán line - an imaginary boundary 62 miles (100 kilometers) above the Earth's surface - the capsule will separate from the booster, reenter the atmosphere, and float back down to Earth with the help of parachutes.

"I want to go on this flight because it's a thing I wanted to do all my life. It's an adventure - it's a big deal for me," Bezos said in a video posted to Instagram on June 7.

Nearly three years before parts of an oceanfront condo building gave way in South Florida earlier this week, an engineer reported alarming evidence of “major structural damage” to a slab of concrete beneath the pool as well as major “cracking” in the beams of the walls in the parking garage, located beneath the building.

The concerns were raised by engineer Frank Morabito in a “Structural Field Survey Report,” produced for the condo association in October 2018 and released by officials in the town of Surfside late Friday night. It’s not clear whether the issues were at all addressed in the years since nor if they contributed to Thursday’s partial collapse, which has left at least four dead and more than 150 others still missing.

The findings prompted a massive repair project, but the Champlain Towers South Condo started to crumble before it could get underway, according to the New York Times.

“Though some of this damage is minor, most of the concrete deterioration needs to be repaired in a timely fashion,” Morabito wrote of the 45-year-old residential building, located in the town of Surfside, just outside of Miami Beach.

The “main issue,” according to Morabito, was that the pool deck, located just above the garage, and outdoor planters were “laid on a flat structure,” causing an absence of proper drainage. He called the lack of waterproofing “a systemic issue” rooted in a flaw “in the development of the original contract documents” decades ago.

It resulted in years of standing water, which left the concrete structural slabs seriously damaged, the Miami Herald reported.

“The waterproofing below the pool deck and Entrance Drive as well as all of the planter waterproofing is beyond its useful life and therefore must all be completely removed and replaced,” the report reads.

“The failed waterproofing is causing major structural damage to the concrete structural slab below these areas. Failure to replace the waterproofing in the near future will cause the extent of the concrete deterioration to expand exponentially.”

The 2018 report also noted that “many of the previous garage concrete repairs” were “failing.”

Heavily Armed Militia Group Shuts Down Massachusetts Highway in Bizarre Standoff

https://www.yahoo.com/news/heavily-arme ... 07101.html
A cadre of armed men from a militia group called the Rise of the Moors shut down a highway outside of Boston for more than nine hours on Saturday morning after allegedly refusing to comply with police orders and taking off into the woods with guns.

The group says on their website that they’re “Moorish Americans dedicated to educating new Moors and influencing our Elders.” In YouTube videos of the incident, they claimed they were only trying to travel peacefully to their “private land” to camp and “train” on Saturday. CBS Boston reported that they were headed from Rhode Island to Maine.

I'm slightly conflicted here. On one hand, the "Moors" are hilariously crazy sovereign citizens who believe and assert the most ridiculous legal bullcrap. Seriously; hit up YouTube for searches like "Moorish sovereign citizen" and watch hilarious police/legal/court fails aplenty. They are some of the looniest sovcits.

On the other hand, in this case it looks like they were merely traveling through Massachusetts when they stopped on the side of the highway to refuel their cars. The police saw that and pulled over and then saw the guns. Those guns are illegal in MA but legal where they are going. There are federal laws that protect the right of people to travel with guns, and you don't need a MA gun license to travel with firearms through MA. Those idiots might actually have a colorable argument that they weren't going anything wrong. Of course, since sovcits don't believe in hiring lawyers and generally try to represent themselves, they'll never make a good/valid argument on that point.

The explosives were deemed too unstable to move, and so they were in the process of detonating them on-site. They had already done one batch of fireworks a few minutes earlier, and the containment unit thing was supposed to be rated for nearly twice the amount of explosives that caused that mess. In the words of NASA Guy, obviously a major malfunction.

Rachel Nichols' leaked 'diversity' comments about Maria Taylor causes uproar at ESPN

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/rachel-nic ... 46834.html
A bombshell report from the New York Times on Sunday revealed there is allegedly heavy internal strife at ESPN stemming comments about diversity that NBA sideline reporter and "The Jump" host Rachel Nichols made about her colleague Maria Taylor, NBA and NFL reporter and the host of "NBA Countdown."

According to the New York Times, Nichols made these comments in July 2020 after ESPN told her that Taylor, who is Black, would be hosting coverage of the NBA Finals instead of her. Nichols sought advice from LeBron James' longtime advisor Adam Mendelsohn and James' agent Rich Paul on a call that was reportedly accidentally recorded because Nichols hadn't turned her video camera off.

During the call, Nichols can be heard saying that she feels like Taylor is only being promoted over her due to ESPN's long and terrible record on diversity.

Researchers took a comprehensive look at statistical findings from 46 different studies around the globe and found that the use of a cell phone for more than 1,000 hours, or about 17 minutes a day over a ten year period, increased the risk of tumors by 60 percent.

Researchers also pointed to findings that showed cell phone use for 10 or more years doubled the risk of brain tumors.

Joel Moskowitz, director of the Center for Family and Community Health with the UC Berkeley School of Public Health conducted the research in partnership with Korea’s National Cancer Center, and Seoul National University. Their analysis took a comprehensive look at statistical findings from case control studies from 16 countries including the U.S., Sweden, United Kingdom, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand.

What does 'use' mean? Holding it to your head? If so I'm probably okay. I'll run the risk of finger cancer, though.

The agency also provided advice on how to reduce exposure, including keeping phones away from your body and carrying devices in a backpack, briefcase, or purse. Health experts said cell phones should not be held in a pocket, bra, or belt holster, as a phone’s antenna tries to stay connected with a cell tower whenever it’s on, emitting radio frequency (RF) energy even when not in use.
They recommend keeping phones at a distance of six feet ten inches away from the body when not in use...

Authorities in Southern California have seized more than 16 tons of marijuana worth an estimated $1.19 billion, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials said Wednesday. The 10-day sting is the largest eradication of illegal marijuana cultivations in the history of the department.
