This store is like 3 blocks from my home. This is my go-to stop to pick up last minute things for recipes, milk/bread, etc. Sucks because they just remodeled their store in September and added a beer/wine cafe :(

Not sure if anyone here listened to Serial or followed this case.

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to review the case of Adnan Syed, whose murder conviction was the focus of the first season of the popular "Serial" podcast.

While I do enjoy some podcasts, this is an interesting take on the "scourge" of podcasts out there right now. I am inclined to disagree for the most part; I think podcasts have unlocked a lot of great content on very specific areas of interest for people. That said, there is a lot of garbage out there that gets a free pass because of the word "podcast", imo.

https://spectator.us/pod-delusion/
The Podcast Scourge has turned the country into such a nonstop jibber-jabbering wind tunnel that there are more than 700,000 active podcasts (or one per every 471 Americans), and more than 29 million podcast episodes. This, up from 550,000 podcasts just last year. And since Serial took off in 2014, studies I’ve fabricated but that should exist show there are now more true-crime podcasts than criminals. Unless we count the crime of unoriginality — in which case, most podcasters could do true-crime podcasts on themselves, thus achieving the Podcast Singularity.

There is much to hate about podcasts. I hate that every other podcaster thinks they need to sound like Ira Glass on This American Life. If Mel Tormé was ‘The Velvet Fog’, Glass is the Nasal Smog that now pollutes our airwaves, complete with emphatic pauses, cloying uptalk and manufactured whimsy. I hate that everyone who’s already had their say feels the compulsion to say more and more. Bill Clinton has a podcast called Why Am I Telling You This? (Great question!) Rudy Giuliani is reportedly thinking about starting an impeachment podcast, when he’d probably be better served thinking about how to stay out of prison.

That's great and all, but how is it better than solar powered shingles from a marketing/functionality standpoint?

None of this matters if they can't make this reasonably affordable for the average household.

True, which is why they should be focusing on making the shingles more affordable, not alternate solutions. But to each their own. There's no President of Science

We need more competition to help drive the technology. Tesla is the only one doing the shingles, as far as I know, and they're absurdly expensive. I still can't believe that it's taking this long to advance alternative energy.

It is amazing. I'm sure big oil has a lot to do with it, but Musk is the type of guy throwing up two middle fingers to big businesses everywhere to make cleaner products at a reasonable price.

Just under $23k for Tesla panels and 2 Powerwalls. $10k in incentives currently, which isn't bad at all.

It would take me 10 years to break even in the best case scenario.

Dow had a program going to develop solar shingles and scrapped it because they didn't see a path forward to making them affordable and profitable.

Sounds like Tesla ran into the same issue, as they're still in development and have effectively stalled. In the panel arena, Tesla screwed up by eliminating perks that SolarCity used to have, and then severing ties with Home Depot. They basically isolated themselves and immediately fell behind other guys like Vivint.

Not bad though, right? I believe you are assuming a net 0 cost in electricity, which may be short selling it. As long as the shingles last those 10 years (which I'm guessing they should last more), it makes it intriguing.

Problem is last time I checked, for a house my size it was more like $50k to have the shingles installed.

It also makes little sense to go the shingles route unless your roof actually needs replaced, IMO.

How much will it cost to put the house on a spinning platform so that all of the windows actually get direct sunlight?

I'm assuming that's a joke, but you've had some seriously bad takes before, so you never can be too sure...

Yeah, total joke, because solar panels aren’t more efficient when in direct sunlight. Which is why panels are just as ubiquitous in cloudy Pennsylvania as they are in sunny Arizona. And why many solar farms don’t have tracking systems to move with the sun throughout the day.

An admittedly somewhat hyperbolic statement, to which you feel inclined to pop off with an insult. But it’s par for the course around here.

Yes I am assuming net zero. The best bet is just to get solar panels as they are cheaper and better.

There's a saying around here you should become familiar with as well:

plant corn, grow corn.
